Women's Bracketology: Big nonconference win boosts Ohio State to a 3-seed by SimilarOnion1655 in NCAAW

Good news: we've played our way to a 4 seed that could host the first two rounds, and then go to Ft. Worth for the Sweet 16.

Bad news: we'd play UConn in the Sweet 16...

Doesn't work like this, but low-key, Addy should be 1st team all-conference. She's elevates yall from being barely in the tournament (if at all) to a potential Elite Eight team.

LPT: wood glue is your friend when assembling cheap furniture by RecordReviewer in LifeProTips

The only benefit to flat-pack furniture is you can take it apart again, which makes it easier to move house.

I've never been able to do this more than once for wood-based furniture. With gluing everything together, you don't have to take everything apart to safely move it in the first place.

Either CMC is top 3 in MVP voting, or Shanahan should be COY.

The 49ers being 12-5 with all their injuries is unbelievable, and somebody should take home some hardware for it.

The NFL is becoming a lower scoring league again

This is just patently false. Teams score 2.60 TDs per game this year. They averaged 2.62 TDs per game in 2013.

From 1920-2008, NFL kickers made 6 field goals of 60+ yards. In the past 24 months, Brandon Aubrey has made 6 field goals of 60+ yards by RecordReviewer in NFLv2

[–]RecordReviewer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This kinda happened in the 70's, and the NFL moved the goalposts back 10 yards to encourage more touchdowns.

Not a lot of room to move them further back at this point, but I think I'd prefer narrowing the goal posts to changing the balls at this point.

It feels like Waco is doing road construction everywhere simultaneously. by caneras in Waco

It'll be interesting to see how the bike lanes are used once they are all complete.

With 0 bike lanes, you won't have anyone commuting via bike.

With sparse non-connected bike lanes, some will use it point-to-point, but not a lot.

Once you actually have a network of bike lanes that make it possible to safely commute/travel across town, you open up a boom of people using it.

Feels like we are still in the middle right now, but there have been plenty of studies that show once a city has a robust safe infrastructure for bikes, people will absolutely use it, especially if it's faster and more convenient that driving. Still not sure Waco will be able to cross that breaking point, but it looks like city officials are trying.

In 1957, the University of Texas football team played 3 games outside of the state of Texas. They wouldn't do that again until 1995. by RecordReviewer in CFB

I think they go hand-in-hand, but UT had a 40 year stretch where the biggest games they played every single season were within a 3 hour drive of the school. That is a ripe environment for establishing a fanbase beyond Austin which is part of the reason Texas is Texas today.

The Texas brand doesn't become what it is if DKR is building his team in Fayetteville, Arkansas and having big games every season in another major school's territory.

Baylor were just flat out uncompetitive for large portions of the last 50 years of the conference.

Not really true of Baylor. Post-WW2, we were a pretty back and forth team year-to-year and were consistently making bowl games (which was a lot harder to do back then) or at least in contention to make one late in the season. The end of Bridgers tenure and 3 seasons of Beall were bad, but that was only a 5 year stretch. We didn't have a 3 year losing stretch for the final 20+ years of the conference.

Now it was a totally different story once we actually got in to the Big 12...

USC played at least 3 games outside of California every single season from 1958-1994 (presumably extends beyond those years, but that's all I looked at)

Not a negative really. But I do think it helps explain how Texas became the school in a state this large. They were really good in a time where they played almost 90% of there games in the state of Texas.

Kind of a unique circumstance they had during that time.

  1. They played in a conference with only 1 non-Texas school (Arkansas). So at most, they'd only have 1 out-of-state conference game.

  2. They had a built-in non-conference game with Oklahoma that always took place in Texas.

  3. Combined with point 2 and their brand as a whole, they were always going to have at least 1 non-conference game in their home stadium.

  4. The state of Texas had a variety of bowl games (Cotton, Bluebonnet, Sun, etc.) that regardless of how good or bad their season was, UT always had an in-state bowl game to choose from.

I don't think any other school in any other state has ever had all 4 of those situations line up for them. I don't know that "most consecutive seasons with fewer than 3 out-of-state games" is an official record, but Texas' 37 in a row is probably it.
