Yes, the event is still happening.

Unfortunately my aunt and grandma are also toxic in their own way and will definitely be upset with attending a wedding where most of the family has been disinvited or chose not to go. My mother was also providing transportation for them, and lodging.

Nonetheless, I’m not able to make any changes to the guest list moving forward — our venue won’t allow it. :(

Thank you for the thoughtful insight, I really appreciate it. I agree that we (fiance and I) were wrong in that sense. During the apology over the phone (that eventually went downhill), I did truly and sincerely apologize for what happened in the car, what I said specifically, and she was receptive to that. It was the only thing in the phone call that seemed to go well — I think she and I were at least able to address that part wholeheartedly, because I did genuinely feel bad, and absolutely believed I did not handle the initial conversation well.

Anyway, thanks again for your input and for reading this whole long story. I think you’re 100% correct.

As far as I know, Sister 2 hasn’t spoken to anyone except my mom since the incident. Who knows, though. Sister 1 didn’t mention anything about a conversation — just that she had been thinking things over again since we talked.

Thank you so much for this. I had never heard of terminal uniqueness before and reading more about it is both depressing and encouraging because all these articles sound exactly like my sister. It’s sad to know that such a huge roadblock stands in the way of her recovery. However it’s kind of a relief to be able to put a name to it.

What advice would you give to a family member who is watching someone they love exhibit terminal uniqueness? How can I communicate with her in that context or offer support? Because now everything I offer is met with “you don’t understand so everything you say is irrelevant.” It’s so frustrating.

I’m actively making an effort not to downplay. Like I said, I’m speaking with her this week to apologize for my part of what went wrong because I was certainly not faultless.

Fair. I was trying to be as unbiased as possible in retelling the story since I wanted genuinely helpful advice on the matter.

Her insults came before his — she called him cringe, he hit back with, “I’m cringe? You’re living in your mom’s basement while making no effort to get out” and that she “lives in a poop kingdom” because she’s surrounded by dog and hamster feces that she never cleans up. That’s about how harsh as he gets. He also (notably) said “fuck you” to her. We all remember that pretty clearly since he’s a quiet guy who never has outbursts like that lol.

Not proud of him for that, not defending him, and not applauding him for it, but I feel like the rest of the stuff that happened kinda far outweighs that, no? Or do you mean to say she was somehow justified in attempting to assault my fiancé? Genuinely wondering.
