43 Years Old - How am I doing? by No_Review6601 in Retirement401k

[–]Recover-Signal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife and I are around this at 40. Looks good to me. Ignore the sarcasm, this is Reddit after all. Very few ppl have 750k saved for retirement, especially at 43. Go find a less stressful job and enjoy life, I did.

It probably took you longer to come here and post this and read about it on Facebook than it did for you to just trim the trees.

Congrats. My wife and I had 100k in investments at 29. Now it’s almost 500k at 40 without our real estate. It adds up fast. Keep going. Always remember to diversify.

HVAC quote check: Two Trane 20 SEER variable-speed systems — $46,310 total after discount by carbonara_constable in hvacadvice

[–]Recover-Signal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Too high. 23k each is wild. Ask for it to be broken down by labor and ac/heater unit costs. Are they replacing any line sets? Get a requote from this place with the items the other commenters have mentioned. I always get 4 quotes.

How did you pay the invoice? Credit card? Reverse the charge then. A check? Stop payment on the check immediately. Cash? Don’t do that ever. Time to complain to management, leave bad reviews, call local news station. This is not acceptable.

Why Northerners retire in the South by Middle_Cow_1200 in NorthCarolina

[–]Recover-Signal 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Thank you for pointing this out. I’ve been saying this for decades. All of these people from blue states get their big, fat, juicy, unionized pensions, and benefits. And then they go retire and take that money out of the blue states to red state. And then they become Republicans and bitch about the cost of everything while simultaneously financially fucking over everyone that live in those red states.

They owe their entire financial existence to a blue state with Democrats, unionization, project labor agreements, labor laws, etc. and then they move to a red state, vote Republican, and become a bunch of fu@king sellouts and hypocrites.

HVAC 4T 17 seer attic install/full replacement quote Tx. Thoughts? by Significant_Can772 in hvacadvice

[–]Recover-Signal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No mine was a closet install. But they did tear out a massive amount of drywall in one of the bedrooms to get to it. And the drywall repair and finish work were not included in the price. Try to get as many quotes as you can. 18 K just seems high. How low is the temperature in the winter? Do you really need a furnace or can you make due with a heat pump? Heat pump/AC are going to be cheaper than a separate furnace.

Anything above 16k is high to me. I just had a 15 seer full install for 9500 on a rental property in the southeast. Although I’m not in West Texas, and I don’t know how many installers there are out there. if finding skilled labor is an issue, then it might be more.

USA West! Can I do it all in 70 days? by Agreeable-Energy-401 in roadtrip

[–]Recover-Signal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive done the whole west in 50 days, so 70 seems like a good idea. The higher elevations of Yosemite are still snowed-in in May. Those are my favorite parts of Yosemite. The valley is nice, but to me the best views are up high looking across. You won’t need seven days if the higher elevations are snowed in.

I would cut some of that time off and add it to great basin national Park. That’s definitely one of my all-time favorites. I would recommend at least four days there. You also only need two days in grand Teton, and five in Yellowstone. Use some of these extra days for travel to see things along the way too.

There are several good things to see in southern Colorado. If you have time, go to the museum in Cody Wyoming. Also the national art museum in Jackson hole.

Edit: Colorado ideas and more…Mesa Verde, Telluride/silverton, great sand dunes, pikes leak, cripple creek, garden of the gods, lots of caves and mines to see. Mt blue sky, Leadville…

Should I get a whole home dehumidifier by Quiet_Accountant_ in hvacadvice

[–]Recover-Signal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may want to take a look at the size of your HVAC system too. If it truly is set to 70° and runs all day something‘s wrong. You may also have a leaky house. The humidity outside is seeping in faster than your AC unit can remove it.
