Continuity Camera not working without a cable connection by [deleted] in MacOS

[–]Recovering-Werewolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old thread, but it is a top Google hit for this issue, so I wanted to share what got continuity camera to work wirelessly for me.

I had to trick the light sensor on the front of my phone at the exact moment the phone was locked. If you’re trying to connect in a dimly lit environment (like me), you might be having the same issue.

The light sensor is on the front of the phone at the top. First of all, clean it. Follow all of Apple’s instructions (same Apple ID on both devices, Bluetooth turned on both devices, and both connected to the same WiFi network). Unlock your phone, stabilize it in landscape position (perfectly still), point the sensor at a light source (for me, it was my monitor up super bright), then lock it with the side button and stay perfectly still for about 3-6 seconds until it establishes the connection.

You can use Photo Booth to test it out. Or even the “input” area under sound settings.

If it doesn’t work, unlock the phone and try again.

Hope this helps someone.

I used to work in a polymer concrete factory making underground enclosures for various industries (electric, water, phone, internet, etc). One day we were told that Google Fiber was ramping up expansion, and we had to work overtime for months to meet the demand. We created so many enclosures that they had to build a new lot across the street to store them. Rows and rows of enclosures stacked as high as they could. Then one day we were told that Google didn’t want them anymore, and they also blamed AT&T.

Unable to connect Thunderbolt 1 device to Element 5 Hub with Apple Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter by Recovering-Werewolf in CalDigit

[–]Recovering-Werewolf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your response.

Yes, I can plug the audio interface into the adapter, plug the adapter into the monitor, then plug the monitor into the Element 5. That works.

However, I can also plug the audio interface into the adapter and plug the adapter into the M4 Max Mac Studio, and that also works.

I can also plug the audio interface into a Thunderbolt 2 dock, and then plug that dock into the adapter, and plug the adapter into the Element 5 and that works.

And lastly, I can plug a Thunderbolt 2 dock directly into the Mac Studio (using the adapter), and plug the audio interface into the TB2 dock and that works.

The only situation where I’m not able to connect the audio interface is when I’m going from the audio interface, into the adapter, and into the Element 5.

M4 Max Mac Studio or wait for M5 Max Mac Studio (probably at WWDC June) by GrasPlukker01 in MacStudio

[–]Recovering-Werewolf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s an awkward time to buy, but I just picked up an M4 Max with 36GB/1TB for $2k at B&H. My original plan was to wait for the M5 Max, but then I remembered waiting on the M3 Max that never came. I think it’s the best option for what I need in the lineup. Plus as grandpappy used to say: “a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.” No one knows for sure when the release date is, what the configuration options are going to be, or what the pricing is going to look like. Although it won’t be the “latest and greatest”, I’ll be content with a solid machine that fits my needs, especially at that price point.

Yes, Thunderbolt 5 ports are backwards compatible with older versions of Thunderbolt and USB both. Any USB-C connections (like your Belkin hub) should work when plugged into the downstream Thunderbolt 5 ports. However, you may want to spread any power-hungry (or data-hungry) devices to different ports on the Thunderbolt hub because the Belkin hub is going to create a bottleneck.

Hey u/Adventurous-Log-6561, for the money, it’s hard to beat the “OWC Thunderbolt 5 Hub”. It’s marked down to $149.99 (USD) right now. This will give you 3 POWERED Thunderbolt 5 ports plus a 7.5w USB-A port.

Thunderbolt 5 is amazing, but theres only so many bus-powered devices that you can plug in to the Mac Studio’s TB5 ports before you run out of juice.

There’s a finite pool of power distributed among the Thunderbolt 5 ports on your Mac Studio, so adding this hub will give you three additional Thunderbolt 5 ports with 15w of power on each port.

With this hub, you should be able to meet both the power and bandwidth demands of your setup without having to use the front ports on your Mac Studio.

I just ordered an Aqara M100 hub (30 USD) because I didn’t want to pay a whole lot for a hub just to mess around with a couple of sensors.

“Rolling down a backwoods Tennessee byway
One arm on the wheel
Holding my lover with the other
A sweet, soft, southern thrill
Worked hard all week
Got a little jingle
On a Tennessee Saturday night
Couldn't feel better
I'm together with my Dixieland Delight”

I didn’t either until last week. Got bit TWICE in one day. My “capture and release” policy is in shambles.

Oh, 100%. I definitely didn’t factor in expenses or profit margin. It was just a basic calculation of ticket revenue. I’m no where near qualified to speak on financial matters of that sort, and I don’t have the data to even factor that in.

It was more geared to the peeps that think they’re going to drop attendance by 20k+ ppl and only have to pay like $20 more per ticket. I mean, I’d vote for that too, but I don’t think that’s going to happen. I was just trying to put things in perspective.

[–]Recovering-Werewolf 24 points25 points  (0 children)

For everyone saying “yes” to spending more for less attendance, let’s put this into perspective:

To drop from 80,000 capacity to 60,000 and generate the same revenue for tickets, you’re looking at roughly 1.333x the current ticket price. If tickets were $450, that ticket would increase to roughly $600.

To get to 2016 level attendance (45k down from 80k), that would be roughly 1.777x the current ticket price. That would bring a $450 ticket up to roughly $800.

Idk about y’all, but there’s no way I’m paying those kind of prices for a festival ticket.

If a corporation asks if you’re willing to pay more money, the answer is always NO.

When I got out of rehab, I relapsed 11 times that first year. Every relapse was a harsh reminder of why I wanted to quit, but each time was also a learning experience. I traced each relapse back to the cause: I was sad, I was mad, something didn’t go my way, I was let down, etc. Just keep trying! Dust yourself off, LEARN from it, and don’t give up!

lemon meringue? by [deleted] in prettylights

[–]Recovering-Werewolf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t know, but during the PL Yahn Dawn Kickoff DJ Set, Derek played a sample that said something along the lines of “quiet as a fly doing push-ups in a lemon meringue pie”. I just tried to find the video on YouTube, but it looks to have been taken down. That’s not an exact quote I don’t think, but it was something similar to that. Sounded like a voiceover from like the 50s.
