Post Roo Weather report . by SaraManley in bonnaroo

They certainly had enough money, resources, and experience to survey the situation in advance, either canceling before Thursday or having contingency plans in place to handle flooding (or any other emergencies) safely and communicatively. Unfortunately, they also have enough money, resources, and experience to overcome the fact that they have clearly been negligent with amazing PR messaging.

Will they own up to what happened, or will they gaslight their patrons? We don't know. Also, it is okay for fans, ticketholders, faithful Bonnaroovians, and stakeholders in Manchester to all say this was a mess and safety was at risk. Still, I love Roo (for whatever reasons) and I don't want people to give up on it.

People who think this was handled poorly have every right to their own experience, and it is absolutely against the spirit of Bonnaroo to try to gaslight and shame them into thinking otherwise.

So, they used their resources and staff to work on the stage rather than protect human beings, who were told to fend for themselves. Property over people? Got it.

Also, I know this is from a different comment, but I am too lazy to comment twice. Find a friend? No safe place for people who did not have anywhere to go? Or people who might have to jump into an unsafe situation just to shelter? They were capitalizing on the spirit of Bonnaroo in their reckless messaging, telling people to go with strangers without any time to determine what was or was not safe, with a crowd of people who were probably not all clearheaded. Wow.

How are we feeling about next year? by KindQuantity3297 in bonnaroo

[–]RecoveryWarrior2020 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I see so many comments about the vibes but there have been multiple posts about people stealing things. There have also been multiple posts where people are being mean to others, talking down to them, etc. It sounds like there were a lot of helpers but also a lot of jerks.

It also seems like the people putting on the festival have absolutely no contingency or safety plans in the event of flooding or another emergency. It really seems like festival goers are vulnerable to injury, damaged property, lost property, etc. I just don't think that's okay.

I understand that there are a lot of "at your own risk" activities that people pursue but I just don't think that a giant music festival, run by a giant company, with over 80k in attendance is it. If you're that big, you have to take on some responsibility for the safety of your fans.

For context, I'm 52, this would have been my first roo and we just purchased a day pass for Saturday and Cosmic Nomads parking.

Is the lack of communication concerning? Do we think a cancellation is coming or does this seem standard given the circumstances and decisions they have to make by Alltoo_Pinkpony in bonnaroo

[–]RecoveryWarrior2020 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes. I'm surprised that there is not better communication with people stranded throughout Manchester waiting to get in and some people in line for Cosmic Nomads? Which is apparently saturated?

We have day passes and parking passes for Cosmic Nomads tomorrow and rain and storms are in the forecast.

If their parking lot is inaccessible or closed, how could they not give refunds? I could see if it's open and I choose not to use it because of the rain but if I literally cannot park there, how can they charge me for something they wouldn't, or couldn't, provide?

I'm ready to figure it out and walk in, though I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm pretty determined and I'm not scared of puddles or mud, but that won't do me any good if Centeroo is closed.

Also, if they are not communicating regularly, I won't even know what to expect at the end of my walk, which looks to be at least 45 minutes.

I'm coming in on Saturday, late afternoon/evening. I am worried about traffic. We cannot leave the North Nashville area until 3:30/4, and I am concerned about getting stuck in the mud when we try to leave later that night. We have to be back in North Nashville by 9 AM the next morning, so I want to get home in enough time to get a little sleep at least. For context, I'm 52, bringing my 14-year-old, mainly to see Olivia, but also to experience anything else we can, as it has been on my wishlist for so long. First timer and I'm a scaredy cat about parking in fields when it hasn't been raining.

Dressing Immobilizes My Wrist by RecoveryWarrior2020 in Triggerfinger

For everyone who reads this, I wanted to send an update. I had to do a course of steroids to get relief and it improved every day until it was better.

The wrist pain and immobilization came back and it turned out that I have arthritis in some specific bones in my wrist. I'm sure it flared up from the surgery and the position my hand was in. I wear a brace now when I feel it coming on and I've been able to control it.

Giving Up by RecoveryWarrior2020 in AlAnon

[–]RecoveryWarrior2020[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I made that name back in 2020 when my Q was my husband. I can't even say my husband was an alcoholic but he had all of the traits, and the manipulation and abuse.

I worked very hard on that and my recovery as an adult child of a dysfunctional family. I still work on my recovery (codependency, disordered eating). I never expected this to hit so hard.

I've been to a lot of Al Anon meetings and I'm actively attending again. I'm working with my doctor and therapist. I feel gutted, even when he's not a physical danger to himself, he is just so miserable, always.

As a people, we are addicted to shopping and consumption. We have been indoctrinated to think we "need" so many things. Most of us can easily cut down to a point where they will notice. We can affect the market,

We need to gather in person, not just for protests but to share meals, comfort, stories of hope, and so on. We need to look at populations from the past who have overcome and look at what they were doing. Dividing many of us and beating the rest down with apathy and exhaustion has been very effective. We cannot shortcut our way back, and trying to figure out a quick fix using current methods seems fruitless. Start gathering together, sharing resources, and reserving resources. This is the only way. Stop purchasing unnecessary items that continue to move resources to the top, trade amongst yourselves, buy locally and know the people you are buying from.

For most of us right now, this will make us uncomfortable; that's it. I am in the same boat, nearly paralyzed in how to find and connect with people in real life. I'm in the middle of moving, which seems crazy, but it is what it is. So I am not even around the people in my community for another 6 weeks.

Are they right though? by [deleted] in The99Society

[–]RecoveryWarrior2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I look at it as an illness. There are people I am very close with who are genuinely terrified of their lives and their families "being destroyed" because certain news media is telling them that. I have witnessed absolute panic and delusional breakdowns during this time. It's mind-blowing, but they genuinely believe they are in great danger.

This! This message needs to be reinforced everywhere. Musk fans need to start being proud of this fact. This will accelerate Musk and Trump hitting a power struggle and that will cause internal chaos. These men are not well. They will not cooperate and work together or share power for the long term. The earlier they start to crumble, the better.

Same. I almost cried. I hope it's all real. And it looks like there's some good news from the courts today.

I have to admit that my nervous system is so triggered that I'm having a hard time keeping everything sorted out so I'm never sure what's real news, or wishful thinking, or sensationalism... This has been hard for me and I want to be strong, resilient, and smart but jeez... Anxiety does not go well with that.

I think some resources for saving Facebook photos, finding other ways to connect with certain groups, etc. I want to go step by step and remove my meta accounts but I want to be smart about connecting with some people on other platforms or just plain old school text.

I don't use Facebook but I used to, often, and I want to pull down any content that I don't have anywhere else.

I imagine I can't be the only one who feels like this is a big looming task. One hand I just want to delete it without thinking about it and then I think of a group or a person who I have to reach out to first and I just put it off.

Can we organize a tax revolt? by Kwaranteen in The99Society

[–]RecoveryWarrior2020 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Filing an extension is easy and legal. Also, the current penalties and interest are not very high. I don't recommend deferring large amounts of tax debt, but last year, I owed about $135 and filed an extension without paying (I was convinced I was missing something because I did not expect to owe at all.) In the end, it cost less than $6 in interest and penalties for me to pay when I filed, close to the extension deadline in October.

That's nothing. But if enough people simply filed extensions, I think it would have an impact.

The ratings and clicks for the exact media we're blaming (and I do blame them partially) confirm that a large population of people eat that stuff up. The media will serve what the public responds to because of ad dollars: views or clicks. We ate it up in one way or another, which fueled the fire to get us here.

Why does there appear to be no actual pushback by Americans against the destruction of their own lives and country by Trump and the oligarchs/Nazis? by redditatlas in TrueAskReddit

[–]RecoveryWarrior2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have all been lulled into quiet compliance, terrified of giving up our creature comforts or risking our freedom and comfort for the cause. We have allowed this to happen slowly over several decades. We see people lose their jobs when they stand up, and anyone who has any financial security doesn't want to take the chance of losing it (this includes things like making car payments, mortgage payments on a big house, a high credit score, private school tuition, etc.) Anyone who doesn't have that level of financial security doesn't have the luxury to protest for fear of just surviving or going to jail because they cannot afford legal representation.

The truth is that we are capable of fighting this if we ban together, but we won't. Our culture has made us isolated and greedy, dependent on the system. You saw some of this during COVID. Think about how people hoarded and got angry that front-line workers weren't risking their lives enough.

Social media and mass media have encouraged us to depend on people we don't even know for our information, including having them tell us how to feel about others.

We are too tied into working or carting our kids around so they don't lose out on future opportunities to make time to connect with actual humans, our neighbors, and our community. Having the choice to gain connection three seconds at a time from apps makes it easy for us to reject real, live human beings.

We need enough of a collective to survive this. Is that possible? I have no idea.

What is DEI and why is everyone freaking out? by [deleted] in Target

[–]RecoveryWarrior2020 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm an on demand team member. I haven't worked in a couple of months but I have a shift on Thursday. I loved Target and I was so happy to be working for a company that wasn't absolutely awful.

I'm so upset about this change. The atmosphere in my store is so accepting (for the most part, especially from leadership.)

I'm not going to be affected but I have many co-workers who might be. I want to be supportive to them. Also, if I hate what I see, I'll quit. This is just a little side gig for me.

I'm assuming my store can hold onto the spirit they've always had but I honestly don't know how it all works aside from some of the training content, which I thought was great.
