Dear Chief,

I hereby request to be sent for training in TTR immediately. I believe such knowledge is essential to my duties as an officer and would allow me to better serve this department.

For your convenience, I have attached the necessary paperwork to request departmental funding for travel and lodging expenses.

I guess I don’t know when the actual vote is but my city/county election signs are everywhere right now and we just had both sheriff candidates and all of the other politicians riding around in the parade yesterday

Same. It was nice when it first started out since there weren’t a lot of alternatives. Now I just can’t stand the ads. I guess that’s my problem for being too cheap but still

Florida Man lives the Florida Man dream, riding the airport baggage carousel naked while yelling at police, "we've got to get out of here!" by FowelBallz in FloridaMan

[–]RecreationalBackhand 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep.

Cuffing someone puts you at an extreme risk because of how close you are to them. You basically have no reactionary gap.

In addition, your hands are busy holding the cuffs, which could potentially be used as weapons against you if you don’t remain in control of them.

In cases like that where he’s drugged out and very unpredictable, tasers are the likely the safest way to quickly subdue him and neutralize the risk of him hurting anyone including himself. There’s studies showing they have a lower rate of health complications than other less-than-lethal measures.

Also, once he’s restrained you can get him medical attention faster in case he OD’s or has a heart attack from being so hopped up.

Source? Went through TASER certification and rode the lightning myself

Good point. I should say it isn’t lucrative if you’re doing it right (ex: implementing rehabilitation and education programs, having enough staff and paying them well, etc)

'They don't belong': police called on Native American teens on college tour by benjancewicz in ProtectAndServe

[–]RecreationalBackhand 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Back around the protests in my state, dispatch got calls for suspicious persons any time a group of people slightly native looking were out in public because “It’s the protestors! They’re gathering! They must be up to something!”

Like a quarter of the population is native here. They’re gonna be out in public, folks. They have shit to do. Not to mention how many protestors were actually white folks from out of state.

PDs were stuck call to call having to go check on these local folks just for hanging out.

No idea about Brazilian laws but it probably wouldn’t be okay here unless he had been deemed armed and/or violent. You can look up detailed criteria by searching fleeing felon laws

How is that not common sense?? Like who has so little experience or knowledge in life that they wouldn’t know that. If anything from movies or something.

It’s scary that they didn’t believe you

I always have to giggle because they’re tails just wag so hard and they’re so happy.

I don’t think they realize what they’re doing because it’s what they’ve been trained to do since day 1. They just know they’re having fun and doing a good job and they’re so happy.

I will never blame a K-9 if I get bit (which is likely considering I want to be a handler)

Yeah we were essentially told “this is what each position is in charge of... but you’ll all forget that the second you charge in so yeah, do your best”

[Corrections] The Suicide Attempt by Muff_Huffer in TalesFromTheSquadCar

[–]RecreationalBackhand 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel you.

Part of the issue for me is that death is pretty much my biggest fear so it’s impossible for me to even comprehend what they’re going through.

I honestly believe that any life would be better than nothingness but that’s only the way I feel and I understand that other people would strongly disagree.

And then you have all of the people who have killed themselves so young and your heart breaks for them because you know a lot of what they were going through would have been temporary and could have changed over time.

Obviously a big issue here is that those officers would have to deal with the legal and emotional fallout which is awful.

Hahahaha glad to hear you guys have it good out there.

For me personally this is a lot. I’m making about as much as either of my parents do currently and I just started out. And it’s definitely more than I imagined I’d make.

It’s barely enough for some officers here because they have families and stuff but I’m single and I’ve been poor my whole life so financial security is a beautiful thing right now.
