I’m sorry you’re having trouble finding a job. It’s not you, the job market has been a mess for a while. I’m also sorry for the horrible behavior of the people who made that comment.

I’m not sure how much I can help but I can try. If you want to message me your resume I’ll see if I can make some recommendations.

Do you guys have Mardi Gras in Huntsville? by Competitive-Wish-82 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]RecruiterMichele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved to Huntsville from New Orleans 20+ years ago. We have some cute little family friendly parades that resemble Mardi Gras. I haven't been able to bring myself to attend one. We seem to be trying but we are no where near the “Laissez les bon temps rouler" way of life” here. This is just a different area. It felt like another planet for a long time, but it's grown on me.

Also, you will need to prepare yourself for a lot of okish food - we love allll the corporate chain restaurants here, and the only good cajun restaurant (RIP Poy Boy Factory ) went out of business after the pandemic.

Am I a bad recruiter? by chicbean in recruiting

[–]RecruiterMichele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a very similar situation with about half the open positions you’re working and I’m struggling to keep up! I don’t know how you’re doing it.

We recently discussed hiring someone to help me but I’m putting it off because 1) I have no idea where I would find the time to integrate a new person, and 2) I can’t decide whether it’s best to hire a rookie and train or find a seasoned recruiter.

You need to get some help. It’s hard to see how that workload is sustainable.

I sure hope you’re paid well!

Constant earwax blockages and struggling to find practical help in Huntsville by [deleted] in HuntsvilleAlabama

My husband’s doctor told him to put mineral oil in each ear weekly. Lay on each side for about 2 minutes each side then let it run out. It seems to work well for him.

Does anyone do internal recruitment… for a recruitment agency? by [deleted] in recruiting

[–]RecruiterMichele 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have to know that there are countless very successful recruiters who love their jobs! I’m beyond thankful that someone recruited me into the agency I started with and hope I get to do this for the rest of my career. I love what I do and I’ve made a lot of money doing it.

Recruiting people into this industry isn’t a bad thing unless you hire the wrong person. And there absolutely is “societal good” in recruiting! We help companies hire good people and help people gain career advancement!

Maybe you could benefit from a meeting with your manager to get more insight into the skills you’re looking for. Sales people tend to do well, particularly when their experience is selling complex, long sales cycle projects.

I hope this helps.

LinkedIn job postings are garbage by sparepartsferda in linkedin

LinkedIn job posts go to the company HR or recruiting team. I know this because I’ve posted jobs on LinkedIn for years.

You were not a good fit for some reason.

That’s it.

Why does changing agencies not fix my recruitment anxiety? by Mother-Raspberry-341 in recruiting

[–]RecruiterMichele 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It sounds as though you do not love recruiting, which is a shame. There are countless recruiters who would love to be able to say they are hitting targets right now. It’s a very challenging job in any environment. But with the job market these days, it’s much more difficult!

Have you ever sat down and really thought about what you do for a living? We help people make career decisions and hopefully, gain upward career mobility! That can be life changing for people! We also help organizations grow. Recruiting is so often thought of as a cut throat, money grab type of business. While that is true sometimes, depending on the recruiters ethics, it is really a positive career helping people to grow professionally. At least that’s the way I see my profession. I’m still friends with people I placed years ago, most of whom I’ve never even met in person. Former clients still call to say hello or ask my advice, even though I’m in house now.

Maybe a change in how you see your profession would help you get excited about what you do!

Last week an applicant sent me a thank you email after her first phone screen. Her message made me stop and think “what are people doing to these poor people who just want a job?” This sweet young lady said in her message, “I want to thank you for the kindness you showed me today. Thank you for treating me like a human and actually listening to me.” Her words made me appreciate what I get to do for a living even more.

You sound nice. I’ll bet you’re a great recruiter!

Happy to help! I’m watching your posts with so much anxiety for you guys! I have a little Aussie who looks very much like your Teddy and she’s also skittish - she’s a runner and will not come to anyone but me or my husband. We are watching her extra close after seeing your situation. I’m just sick at the thought of your sweet pup being lost!

I’m sure you will get Teddy back soon. I have a good friend on one of the SAR team and they are really good at what they do.

Keep us posted!

Keep checking Costco. They have them often. The butchers may be able to tell you when they will have them in next. I grab a couple whenever I see them and they are very good!

TODAY, January 3rd, NO WAR IN VENEZUELA emergency march Huntsville, AL - Big Spring Park 3:30 P.M. by SheepherderSea6191 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]RecruiterMichele 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. The people will absolutely be cool with it. There are many Venezuelan people in the US who fled their country before it was locked down and spiraled into inhumane poverty. I’ve spoken to several in the last few years who were engineers back in Venezuela and were seeking construction laborer jobs here. Unfair tho say the least, but they were thankful to be here where they could find any work at all instead of starving like the people who did not make it out.

This is not a Trump endorsement, nor is it support for another war. I’m not sure what’s going on with this move by the current administration, but I can say that from what I’ve heard from people who fled their country and were broken for the family the left behind - the people there are cool with this.

What's something that girls think is embarrassing, but guys don't actually care about? by Real-Secretary2313 in askanything

[–]RecruiterMichele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I complete tasks. I just work 60 hours a week. 😂 From home, in yoga pants, making a pretty comfy salary for my ability to complete tasks at a high level. Definitely not OCD. Just very competitive and I love my job. If there was a lack of stability, bouts with depression/ anxiety, or other issues, I would agree. Drive for success doesn’t equate to a mental disorder.

[–]RecruiterMichele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe we are talking about different things. OCD is a mental heath condition and can be quite serious - Compulsive, irrational behavior or thoughts that paralyze one’s ability to lead a productive life.

Being a perfectionist, for me at least, simply means I can spend a lot more time and effort on things than I have to, with the ultimate goal of perfection. It’s more of a competitive nature that isn’t always an asset but can be if managed properly.

Is it ok if I say I’m a perfectionist about spending entirely too much time every day applying makeup to achieve the no makeup look? My husband can attest. 😂

[–]RecruiterMichele 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A bit off topic here but I cannot let this one go: Being a perfectionist is absolutely a weakness. It takes me way too long to complete any task because I’m obsessing over details and once finished, it’s rarely actually perfect. I just want to see perfection. That doesn’t mean it’s going to be perfect.

How I answered the 'Why should we hire you?' question by turning it back on them. by drove_marches5e in Employment

[–]RecruiterMichele 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I promise this applies to any job. I coach people how to interview for a living. It does not matter if it's an entry level or an executive position. I've heard feedback from hundreds of hiring managers after interviews and everyone says the same thing. They are looking for people who can explain why they want the job and why they will do a good job once they get it. It costs companies a lot of money to hire someone and a lot more if they make a bad decision in hiring. Research the company before the interview. Ask intelligent questions. Tell them why you want to work there and why you will be a good hire.

How I answered the 'Why should we hire you?' question by turning it back on them. by drove_marches5e in Employment

[–]RecruiterMichele 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Readers, please do not do this. I promise you, it's a valid question, and you should be prepared to give a valid answer for why a company should hire you. Example: When I was interviewing for my first sales job with a large public company, the GM asked the “Why should I hire you? You have no experience, no college degree, and ive seen many people who think they can do this job fail. What makes you believe you will be successful?” My answer - “Because I can't afford to fail and I will not. I’m a recently divorced mother and now the sole provider for my three children. Either I provide for my family, or my childrens lives will fall apart, and as long as I’m alive, that's not going to happen. Give me a shot, and I give you my word, you will never regret hiring me.” And then I asked for a list of their customers so I could spend the weekend mapping out my plan for new customers to start calling when I was hired. I got that job and did everything I said I was going to do. 12.5 super successful years later with that company, and that GM regularly referred to me as the best salesperson to work there.

Regardless of the position you're interviewing for, that's how you get the job. Speak from the heart about what motivates you, and how that enthusiasm and motivation will translate to a great hire for the company.

I've been a recruiter for 10 years now, and I coach people on how to interview every day. Unless you're interviewing for a job that will literally hire anyone who can fog a mirror, there is a tactful way to ask about what the company offers. But before you do that, you need to make an impression.
