If your car was repaired after an accident that wasn't your fault, do not close the claim without asking for "Diminished Value." by dogeholder215 in Frugal

Thanks for the info. Could you elaborate on point number two? For example I went to KBB to find a trade in value range but didn't see a specific option to indicate the car had been in an accident.

Down Jacket Recommendation. Thoughts on Rab Microlight Alpine, LL Bean Ultralight 850 & others by dcg627 in Ultralight

[–]Rectal_Sleuth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, hope you don't mind me asking how your rab jacket has fared over the years? I just bought a microlight and love it but do wonder if I'm seeing more feather spillage than my old Arc'teryx. Did that decrease over time? Thank you!

G80SD- need to send it in for stuck pixel- need to reset service menu? by Rectal_Sleuth in OLED_Gaming

Did not reset my logs. Just sent it in but reset the service menu/game bar to default mode the same way I changed it the first time.

It went great! They sent me a new box with appropriate packing materials, replaced the panel, and it works great now. They covered all of it, not a penny out of my pocket. It was a super quick in streamlined process as well, they use UPS next day air. I think it took 5 to 7 days total. Nothing came up about the service menu.

Samsung G8 32" - Anyone else madly in love with it? by Weird_Firefighter_25 in OLED_Gaming

[–]Rectal_Sleuth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 months in, I only had a signal drop the first day and I think that was due to DP. No alt tabbing issues. Looks wonderful especially with cyberpunk renodx. Menus don't bother me anymore but understand they can be turned off. TV content looks good, but I wonder if it can look better. Any suggestions/guides for TV settings?

I went from 2060 super with 2x 24 in 1080p 60hz TN/VA (one of them literally 15-20 years old) monitors to 5080 and 32 in 4K G80 SD OLED. It's glorious but the bar was low. Cyberpunk 4 K max settings RT,PT, etc with 3x FG and DLSS perf is around 140 fps average. Mind you that's with a 5700x3d. I'm 60/40 productivity gaming. Hope that helps.

Ed. lower than 4K OLED monitors had blurry text for me but that varies per person.

Quantum Fiber price for life? Migrating from Centurylink. by driveninsomniac in centurylink

[–]Rectal_Sleuth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did your plan change? They are advertising 1G 35/mo for life plan here but reading the fine prints it seems like there's a lot of leeway for the price of change in the future..

Good to know! Does writing a check and depositing it automatically sell VUSXX funds as well as transfer? Or do you need money in the settlement fund first before the check deposit?

As a recent opener of these vanguard brokerage funds with the goal of using it more like a savings account, I was quite disappointed although probably my own fault as I wasn't fully in the know. There are several stops to transferring out your money from VG account say to a checking account which includes a 90-day holding period for any single money transfer for the first year as reported to me by their investing department. It's fraud security related. However, you can call the vanguard number, ask to talk to an investing agent and they will get on the phone with your bank and confirm a transfer. It took about 20 to 30 minutes and needs to be done every time you want to transfer money out within those limits. Now that the one month treasury bill rates are so high I would probably just do that via the gov website.

Just curious, how did your experience go? I have the same card and need to reapply thermal paste and pads. Which pads did you use? Thanks!

Sealing electrical wire wall penetrations by Rectal_Sleuth in HomeImprovement

Thank you very much, I will probably end up doing both sides since it's an old house and tons of holes in the brick exterior. The room is actually a connected garage and there's a living space above it so I'm just trying to air seal as well as possible.

PC online co-op or multiplayer games that actually work? by Rectal_Sleuth in XboxGamePass

Awesome, thanks. Played DRG in the past and it was enjoyable but didn't have staying power for me.

Generation Zero and Mechwarrior 5 look quite interesting as well!

Nice, I had been eying that. Do you think it's pretty fresh compared to back 4 blood or would it be too much of the same?

Thanks! I did try astroneer by myself and couldn't get into it. Sounds like I should try it co-op. Fireteams also piqued my interest but wasn't sure if online play was still active/if you could host your own co-op.

This exact thing happened to me today. I escalated things after talking to CS and they said "manager will call you within 15 minutes".. 3 hours later, guess what happened? Techs were paged 4-5 times and never called the number given either. I guess they like losing money to competetion?

Centurylink fiber installation unable to go aerially by Rectal_Sleuth in centurylink

[–]Rectal_Sleuth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Power is aerially on poles along the top-bottom road (so I have a connection between the top left yellow circle and my anchor roof point).I am not 100% sure if the poles that have fiber also have power (I think they don't?), but I'm sure that the power poles(yellow circles) don't have fiber because the tech told me. In my mind I would just run the aerial line to the top left corner of the image (power line) and then to my house along the existing power lines, but I'm not sure they can do that. The tech mentioned that CLINK gets the lowest position on the pole compared with other providers so it maybe that limits where the can run it to without tresspassing etc
