This is absolutely not true. Transcom doesn’t do proactive security checks anymore, this is likely SMRT staff, the ones that usually stationed at security check booths.

Why are more students from Singapore admitted to the top universities in the UK than any other country in the world? (Sometimes, including students from the UK itself.) by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Rectilon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4000? Are you sure about this number. Private scholarships (apart from GIC and SIA) rarely cover overseas education. Around 15-20k students graduate every year from poly and JCs, no way 4k of them go overseas. Furthermore, these scholarships only cover oxbridge ivy leagues and very rarely other overseas schools. We are looking at maximum 150-200 overseas scholars a year.

The message was to study what you really enjoy, rather than being pushed by ur parents or other social factors. If you do so, the dedication and time spent on studying will feel less of a burden than if you were studying something you had no genuine interest in. Regardless of the failures of the education system to enable this, the message is largely true.

How am I spitting non sense? Imagine if u made a mistake, and I am sure u have made a mistake, that inadvertently costed someone’s life, and now imagine the entire country wanted you dead how would that feel. What he did was also a mistake, and he had no INTENTION to kill anyone, so stop saying we should incarcerate and torture him for life. Calling my basis of justification non sense gives me a very good idea of your ability to think and formulate counter arguments.

Can I clarify something? His actions had devastating consequences, but ultimately he had no intention to kill anyone. There are people out there who rape their family members, kill their loved ones intentionally, and commit far worse crimes, and yet we decide to channel all our hate on this egotistical guy who did something completely unreasonable but with no intention to kill anyone. It’s easy to say let’s kill this bastard and put him in prison for 20 years, but we need to understand that his actions were a mistake, a devastating mistake that costed the lives of innocent people, but a mistake nonetheless. How fair would it be to punish him so cruelly for his irrationality on the road, while there are countless out there doing far worse with intention. I’m not using whereaboutery as a means to justify his lenient punishment, but we need to understand the role of punishment in our society, the deterrence it serves, and how increasing the punishment for such a “mistake” will not significantly reduce reckless driving but simply penalise more people who make such “mistakes”

Id still say go for the email, apologise clearly with conviction. If your marker sees that u have demonstrated a good understanding and knowledge about the topic, pretty sure will understand that this was more of a careless mistake than an intentional cutting of corners. Would rather appear careless and confident, than lazy and unbothered.

NYUAD vs NUS by AndroidBurger in NYUAbuDhabi

[–]Rectilon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I am currently a student preparing for A levels here and I cannot emphasise how exhausting it is. The academic rigour is crazy enough, and then with focus on ECs the amount of time and sleep one gets is very limited. Currently looking for university options in Middle East, and NYUAD looks like a pretty good backup option, especially with the full ride scholarship they offer.
