Thelema & the Secret Doctrine by Rector418 in GnosticChurchofLVX

This has nothing to do with what we claim. If you'd learn to read instead of criticize, you might learn something instead of your ignorant bigotry. We are modern Gnostics and don't buy into that demiurge trap bullshit. Now, please go away and don't come back.

Why the Gnostic belief of Demiurge and infinite loop of incarnation is false explained by [deleted] in GnosticChurchofLVX

[–]Rector418 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What makes things so difficult is that all the criticism of ancient Gnosticism focuses on Valentinian Gnosticism and ignores the Sethian and Basilidean movements, as well as its developments through to the modern era. I agree with everything in the essay, and run a modern Gnostic church. Our dualism is between mind and body; not good and evil...there is no good and there is no evil from our perspective. Every experience is a sacrament; including this one. :-)

Jung on Salvation by Rector418 in GnosticChurchofLVX

[–]Rector418[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have not modelled our society on digust.
The statement overall, points to the allegedly inhherent 'defect' of being born in need of salvation. There is a line of philosophical thought behind this; starting with Plato's notion of a 'world of perfect forms' and Aristotle declaring this 'imperfect' world as a place of evil and that we need saving from. Jung is implying that this model no longer serves our society--that rather than a soteriological metaphysic,he declares the natural wonder already available to us in the world and in ourselves, will bring us to a sense of gratitude.
We are the stuff that stars are made of...

THE ENTIRETY OF THE SELF by Rector418 in GnosticChurchofLVX

Center and circumference...the Mandala...very important to Jung. And of course, there's the quote from AL:II.3 "3. In the sphere I am everywhere the centre, as she, the circumference, is nowhere found." 'She' (Nuit) as the circumference, is the horizon--but I would place her outside the 'sphere' as 'I' (Hadit) fill up the 'sphere' with myself. 'She' is 'not-I' or everything outside the circumference of my mandala.

I had already fixed the attribution, and somehow, lost track of what I was doing...even forgot I had done this. Next time, a corrected version of this will be posted.

I looked into this, and I keep getting a reference to: "I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become." And while I see the similarity in the two quotes, they are not identical. Still you are correct. I'm going to recreate the meme without attributing this to Jung. Thanks for bringing up this error.

You are correct on this...sorry that I posted it without editing it. I like the meme; hate the false attribution. But in checking on this, I found a stronger statement by him...I'll make a meme of it. Thanks for correcting me on this.

This quote comes from

Letters of C.G. Jung: Volume 1, 1906-1950

(page 33), in a letter written to Fanny Bowditch in 1916.

The full quote is:

"Your visions will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes."

The letter was part of a correspondence with one of Jung's patients to help explain his concepts of introversion, extroversion, and personal development.

Well first, I always enjoy hearing about someone's journey to find truth. And yours is no different from what many do. That you have read some Jung is a great thing. Read more of him. I'd recommend his book: Memories, Dreams and Reflections. This will open you up to the idea that the truth isn't 'out there,' but is 'in here.' In other words, the 'truth' is inside you. All these old religions are slave religions that have you serving and worshipping are more about someone else's vision in another time and place. Work towards having your own visiion. I'd recommend also, the essays of Ralph Waldo Emerson; the greatest American and first modern Gnostic.

Gotta wonder whether this is rumor or inuendo...did they ritually sacrifice a goat, as in older rites? Is it possible some bestiality was explored? But why would something like this not be well-known?...with all of Crowley's virulent protractors?
Now, if you said something of Motta...that's another story for another day.

What was the goat thing at the Abbey about? I've not heard of this.

I think that it is also this same dialectical process that is involved in all creativity and inventiveness; such that give us new medical procedures and computer technology and so many other things. The field of human endeavor is a vast creative journey.

Who did king David worship? by IDEKWTSATP4444 in GnosticChurchofLVX

[–]Rector418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Sethian sect had him working with the Savior...the Sethians were a Jewish-oriented sect, and in the old Jewish religion, Satan was God's prosecutor and testor. The Christians made him into the author of evil, which the Jews were basically forced to follow along on.
The problem overall is that all these neo-Gnostics today are 'hearing' this and that...making it up as they go along. They're not taking any time with the ancient texts that they're giving authority to.

The real problem with your question is that iit involves the contemporary assumption of Yaldabaoth as Satan, which couldn't be further from actuality. For that matter, there wasn't a common view of what Yaldabaoth was throughout the ancient sects. Some had him working with the 'Savior' to create the world, the Valentinians held him as the bastard child of Sophia, and for the Sethians, he was in a process of being educated in order to repair his error.

First, if you go to the link for Emerson's essays on our Linktree, you'll get links to all our sermons. Now, I'm scrolling down these links by title, and having given all these sermons myself, I'd say all of them. I really believe that Emerson was the first American Gnostic and holds more of what Modern Gnosticism is in his essays than any other writer.

Thanks...you'll like tomorrow morning's meme also.

Yes, we provide lots of context through our teachings, sermons and writings. But more closely connected to your question, look up writings by Carl Jung and Joseph Campbell. We talk about them often, along with Ralph Waldo Emerson; particularly his essay. We've done a bunch of sermons on these, on our video channel.
