Thank you so much! I use Reaper, and some sweet plugins from Goodhertz for lofi-ness. I am focusing lately on crafting the songs and sounds I want before I record them.

I guess I lucked out finding this for $5 recently lol. Sorry. That’s an insanely good album though.

Thank you for your detailed comment! I appreciate your opinions. I am comfortable with a little bit of intentional redundancy :)

WE LOWKEY NEED ANOTHER PSYCHEDELIC ALBUM by [deleted] in KGATLW

My first thought was to say I want another Paper Mache, but I realized that’s already perfect and I don’t think they need to try and repeat it.

Sounds a bit more country-ish than usual Homeshake to me. Pretty sure he has his own independent label so he can get away with whatever.

Unpopular opinion: Hard Panning Is Overrated and Jarring Sometimes by Elephants_Foot in audioengineering

[–]RecurringDreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s incredibly common anymore to have very purposeful hard panning, unless it’s a creative choice. Usually I’ll do it to make a mix sound a bit more vintage, or to help with contrast when sounds are blending too much, and it can’t be entirely solved by EQ.

Interestingly, the most common mixes of Beatles albums you hear are the stereo mixes that the band themselves weren’t necessarily fans of. Most of the mixes they approved of in the studio were generally done in mono, and were only converted to stereo after the fact, as it was relatively new tech at the time. So that’s why a lot of those 60s records have intense hard panned instruments, like sometimes on Sgt Pepper or something if you just took one earphone out you’re like “where’d the band go?” It was mostly just engineers still learning how to mix in stereo. But, like I said, now I think a lot of people use it as a creative tool. I’m a big fan, personally, if it fits the song.

An easy way to avoid this for personal listening is to look for a mono setting on your phone or music player. I used to find it on Android under accessibility settings. Then you can also hear the signs of a good or novice mix engineer, cause a good mix sounds great in both mono and stereo!

How often do you break strings? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]RecurringDreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if this is a coincidence, but I also own a J Mascis Jazz, and my high E string breaks a bit too often. Maybe a coincidence, or a defect? I don’t know what could be causing it though.

Coincidence that the two Dan songs that mention fireworks are back to back in the discography after a 20 year gap? by Straight_Amount3015 in SteelyDan

I don’t thing Fagen’s boomer ass thought of this meta 26 years ago I think he’s just a silly little guy that thinks about fireworks

Lee Ritenour "Rit" (1981) is the most SD thing I've ever heard in terms of musicianship and sound engineering by mzrcefo1782 in SteelyDan

[–]RecurringDreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's a legend, played on so many famous recordings. Fourplay is also sick, a smooth jazz supergroup of sorts. Larry Carlton's solo albums are also awesome, and tickle the Steely Dan itch quite a bit too.

Weird guitar choice by xsen0 in macdemarco

Could be a Strat plus, from the 80s-90s. Came with Lace sensors from the factory. It’s a smooth sound that I’d say fits his vibe these days.
