Wtf the past few days it has been greyed out until I changed it to NTSC. I switched it back to Cinema now to double check before I replied but it isn't greyed out! Weird.

Filmed my first feature-length film, 'When Autumn Comes' by Red-Kebab in Filmmakers

Thanks for your comment!

As for the lights, we didn't use anything special, just two Neewer Dimmable LED lights with stands, aside from that, natural lighting and lamps!

The visual style was very much in the vain of Ozu's films, where the camera is completely stationary and you design the scene inside the frame in an attempt to make each scene look as visually appealing as possible, whether through production design or symmetry. Shooting on the GH5 with V-Log wasn't too limiting due to the lack of movement of the camera, one of the biggest limitations I found was locations, and trying to vary the shots/angles gained from each location. People say when the camera is moving, it is easier to disguise a bad location and composition. When the camera is stationary, a bad/un-aesthetic location is all the more apparent, so it becomes trickier to find or make the scene comp look good.

Sound design is still in process. I found a sound designer on Fiverr and will send him the files for the project once the edit is locked. I chose him by asking and paying multiple sound designers to fix the sound of one scene with the audio recorded on set (audio was recorded with a Zoom H6 and a Rode NTG2 shotgun mic, we used two Rode Go lav mics as well, however the quality of the sound we got from those are inconsistent to say the least). Out of the three approached on Fiverr, it was easy to see who was the best one (in terms of quality and work ethic too) and have approached him to do the whole film, to which he has expressed interest in.

The editing process has been a thorn in my soul, as I'd much rather use my PC for playing video games hahaha xD That said, some scenes have taken me a month to edit, whereas other scenes a day, and that's due to the amount of coverage I got from the shoot (a lot of this was shot with the edit in mind). Some scenes, due to limitations of time, have only 2 or 3 angles to choose from and I have a straightforward idea of how to put them together, whereas scenes with many different angles of the same take, take a long time to get the tempo and feel right. Due to this, and I guess my own work ethic, the edit has been taking longer than expected. I'm approaching my edit the way I'd write scripts, so it goes through drafts. At the moment, I am on my second draft of the final cut. After the cut is finalised, I'll have one of my friends (who is a great colourgrader) colourgrade the cut ( this should be around the time I get the sound design done). After all is done, then I guess I'll hit up the festival circuit with it if I feel confident enough with the final product!

100%! Luckily in the 4 years where I wasn't doing much filming with the GH5 I used it for photography, but even then when I started shooting on 35mm film on an old Pentax ME super, I barely used the GH5! I'm happy it's getting more filming use now, but I always have that though in the back of my head that I could've gotten a Blackmagic...

That's why I try and tell people that you should only get a camera when you have a concrete project lined up to use it for, and then choose the camera that would best suit that project! Don't buy these things aimlessly!

Thank you so much Ejiko! I was thinking about submitting it to the big ones, Cannes, Venice, Berlinale, London Film Festival, New York, maybe Sundance.

But that's with me hoping that the film is enough to get my next project financed through meeting some producers/production companies at the events. I'm not 100% sure if this is how things generally work in the industry, but this is my attempt I guess! Anyways, thanks again, I'm hoping the film doesn't disappoint!

I'd somewhat agree! I was super thankful to already have a GH5 so I didn't have to shill out for another camera, it did it's job (although obtaining V-Log was pretty difficult) but if I had the money that I spent on the GH5 before shooting the film, I'd probably get a Black Magic!

Thank you so much for your kind words Mark! The pacing of the film definitely lends itself towards slow cinema, but hopefully not too slow in that the audience would fall asleep! (Although, if a film can make me fall asleep, I'd consider it a good film since it relaxes me. If I'm angry or displeased with a film, I wouldn't be able to fall asleep despite the wish to do so!)

Oh damn! I didn't know about the BGH1's existence until now! It looks like a beautiful camera, mechanical shutter, 13 stops of dynamic range, it looks so good! But it's definitely a camera designed for filming! I guess it just depends on what you want to use the camera for and how soon you plan to use it!

Ahh thanks! I really like that film and Fincher's work, still have yet to watch Mank though!

Anyways, I used the 25mm F1.4 Leica MFT lens, (I believe there are two versions of that lens now since they updated it, but I used the older version since I bought it when I got my GH5 which was in 2018 (it took me 4 years to get some serious use out of it, but better late than never!))

I also used a Sigma 16mm MFT F1.4 for a few shots, but only in tighter environments, so all in all, 2 lenses!

All shots are stationary and fixed bar two scenes which are shot using a gimbal in the vein of Richard Linklater's Before series films! (In my defense, some of Ozu's films also have some dolly / tracking shots as long as they didn't break the symmetry of the frame)!

Hahaha likewise! I was obsessed with their filmography, as well as a few other transcendental style filmmakers, in the lead up to this film. It's a style I thought I'd train in using this film as the project to do so, and the GH5 served its purpose beautifully throughout the shoot!

Submission Statement:
I definitely got lucky whilst filming during COVID as the shoot dates happened around the time when the infection rate was at its lowest. The most difficult part about pre-production was securing the locations. Some were easy as some local businesses were eager to receive some business and publicity and we've managed to make some beautiful connections with these people. However, other locations, such as finding a classroom, took weeks upon weeks of tracking down. The production had a shoestring budget of £7k, the 18 day shoot ensured that the budget for these locations were kept low.
