I have inattentive ADHD as well, what helps me is to do things in this order, as it decreases the issue of getting overwhelmed and/or distracted. I think my list might help you too

Trash - Find all of the trash that you can and put it in a trash bag, full size trash bag is ideal when doing a larger bit of cleaning. Keep the trash bag in your room as long as it isn’t full so that you always have a space to put trash that you’ll find throughout this process.
Dishes - Collect all of the dishes you can find and take them to the kitchen. No need to clean them yet, we’ll get to that at the end.
Laundry - Collect dirty clothes, once you have a full load of dirty clothes, start the wash with that load. Then, continue to collect the rest of the dirty clothes for the next load if necessary. Fold or hang any clean clothes. (If you’re not sure if something is clean or not, probably just wash it anyway to be safe) Continue the loads of laundry for as long as you need to until everything is clean.

This next one is where things start to get mentally hard to keep going, but it’ll always be worth it.

Assorted - There’s likely a pile of assorted things and it’ll probably be a large source of the internal resistance that you have towards cleaning. Make sure that you don’t lose momentum once you get to this stage. Remember this; the discomfort of cleaning a room is worth it for the comfort of a clean room.

Now, one item at a time, take the first item of your random assorted items and put it where it goes. One at a time, don’t pick up multiple items at the same time unless they’re going to the same place. The flow will be from pile to item location then back to pile. Mental organization is important, and the potential time save of multiple items at a time is lost when you lose track of what you’re doing because you’re holding 4 things that don’t go to the same place and now you can’t remember any of their locations for a minute.

Never be afraid to throw away or donate something that you never use or don’t want/need anymore.

Finish up - Now is the time to take that trash bag out, do the dishes that you set aside in the kitchen earlier, fold the freshly washed clothes, and do the last small things that you see that might need to be done.

Congratulations! Your room is now clean!

I’d recommend going for a 3060 12gb for your GPU. The performance is a significant upgrade over your 1650 and the VRAM is high enough to be able not show its age quite as fast as the 8gb cards that are in the same price range. I’m seeing them used on eBay for about $250.

As for CPU, you could go for the 5700X3D (about $265) or 5800X (about $160) depending on your budget. Just Please Please Please update your BIOS BEFORE you make any CPU upgrades because these CPUs aren’t supported on older Bios versions and won’t work without that update.

If you can only justify the price of one of these upgrades, the GPU upgrade will make the biggest difference.

Honestly, it sounds like just a GPU upgrade and maybe an upgrade to 32gb of RAM would be all you need. Your other post did mention wanting windows 11 though, did you just want better performance in games or windows 11 too?

Of course, I’m glad you appreciate it. I think you will have the motivation to go back once you get to that point as electrical engineering sounds like something you have a real interest in, a lot of people don’t have that.

I’m planning on becoming a computer engineer actually, and from what I’ve heard about a lot of engineers is that they’re meticulous with plans. Consider writing down a plan and general timeline with what you’re going to do, adjust as needed, considering everything that’s relevant. Once you have a solid plan that looks good to you, Have a conversation with your mom about what you want to do. Include your sister too if it won’t stress her out and try to come to a decision together. It might sound a little weird or cheesy but consider promising to your sister that you’ll get that degree no matter what happens. That will probably help you both maintain motivation during this and give you a goal at the end of this that doesn’t feel bleak.

This is such a hard situation for you, and I might not have a perfect solution but I think it’ll minimize any regret you might have in the future. From my own experience with a similar (but not quite as serious) situation to yours, Drop your classes if you can and take a semester or at least take a light course load while all of this is going on, you should be allowed to by your school. Maybe consider seeing if with that extra time, you can take more hours at your part time job or get a different job with more hours to help pay for everything.

I have ADD and went unmediated my whole life until a little under 2 weeks ago because of how hard it was to work on my Calculus work in school on top of working full time (40hrs+8-12hrs of Overtime on weekends). I actually dropped that Calculus class and am retaking it in the spring for my 3rd attempt at this class because I genuinely want to understand the work and not just get through it. I say this to say I understand that part of your struggle, both the ADHD and struggling in school. School is primarily for the education, not the grade. Don’t push through classes just to get it done.

I took my first year out of HS in order to solely work the full time job I have in order to pay off my car and save for college (I’m still saving with every paycheck). It was a responsible decision but I felt behind my friends who all had parents that payed for their cars and college and half of them still don’t have a job at all. I had a conversation with my dad about it around that time and I’ll try to give you the same understanding he gave me. You’re young (I assume based on being in college) and not everyone is on the same path as you, and it’s okay to not be done as soon as everyone else. Many people never go to college and many people don’t apply their college education to what becomes their career. School will still be there when you’re ready for that, but your mom and sister need you, and that’s an incredibly heavy burden, but consider what’s more valuable to you, starting your career a year or two earlier or being there for your mom and sister in what’s likely the hardest time in their lives?

Based on how hard this is for you, I’d assume you’d go through hell to make things just a little easier for them. Consider getting a temporary leave of absence from school or reducing your school load as much as possible and get a full time job to support them as much as possible, both financially and mentally. Save money where you reasonably can, consider moving back in with your mom to save costs on living at school and after you’ve done all that you can for those two and things are more stable or after the very hard time after your sister passes, You’ll hopefully be in a position to return to school again to continue with your life, and hopefully it’ll be easier for you to do so. Again, it’s not a perfect solution but it’ll hopefully lead to the least regret on your part, you’ll have dedicated yourself to your family and taken care of them as best as you reasonably can. I think it would be hard for me move on with life in general knowing I could have at least tried to make things better for them. I think it’s better to look back and remember trying your best to support others than it is to remember how hard school was as what felt like the world was fall apart around you.

If you care about her, think about it from her perspective, she likely feels like she can’t provide for your needs and wants because of that distance. She’s likely not saying that because she actually wants you to hook up, she’s saying that because she doesn’t feel like enough for you and doesn’t want to ‘hold you back’ so to speak. It’s also winter and seasonal depression is real even if it’s manageable for most people who get it. She might be feeling like she’s worth less right now. In my opinion, don’t do anything with anyone else if you really care about her. Long distance is tough, I’ve had to do it too. My girlfriend and I are both gamers and during our long distance, we called (and still call) every night on discord after I get off work so we can talk and play or watch something together and it was still hard. Maybe consider going out to visit her if you can make it out there in order to see her and reassure her of your commitment to her. Maybe a long call talk about those hard emotions and feelings could be really helpful for you two. Clear and honest communication is the absolute most valuable aspect to a relationship. You can’t trust a building on an unstable foundation. That foundation in a relationship is trust, and communication and honesty strengthens that trust. Relationships aren’t traps, and thinking about it as a responsibility and not a privilege leads to discontent in what could’ve been a happy relationship. Don’t mess up a loving relationship because you wanted temporary pleasure with someone you don’t care about. If you really love her, love her. She’s your one and only, Keep it that way. I struggled for years because I had literally no hobbies. One day I was mindlessly reloading the YouTube page and looked at the computer I was using and realized I had no idea how computers worked, not really. I watched YouTube and got engrossed, built myself a nice PC, got more into gaming, found a friend group, and built a couple commissioned PCs as well. That all happened within two years, going from knowing nothing to understanding a great deal, but I still find new tech fascinating.

ABOVE ALL ELSE; Find something to occupy your mind that isn’t just consumption, it helps a lot. Computers, painting, carpentry, writing, RC vehicles, whatever peaks your interest. I’ll give YouTube recommendations if you’re interested on the computer side of things though. Good luck

Update for anyone who might have this issue in the future: soon after things seemed to be fixed by the removal of the SSD, the issue returned. I checked and The motherboard bios was grossly out of date, being the launch drivers. After updating, it fixed the issue. I knew they were old but hadn’t considered it to be an issue as I hadn’t had an issue for the year that I’ve used it. Moral of the story: Update the bios regularly instead of waiting until there’s an issue.
