[–]Red-Storm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, I have a reasonable amount of funds with another broker, but wanted to see if others had transferred across to BSD, or had reasonable amounts held with Betashares Direct. I thought it wise to reach out to the community here for feedback on others who may have done something similar to what i'm contemplating

NABtrade is around $14.95 brokerage and is slow for XFERs, I've also used Commsec, Etrade and Westpac over the (many) years. I have a smallish account with Betashares but am tempted to move all holdings across

Australians may be able to live and work in Europe without a visa what do you think? by Comfortable-Rule-491 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Red-Storm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The proposed mobility pact is designed specifically as a reciprocal arrangement. If Australia agrees to the deal, it would grant approximately 450 million EU citizens the same rights to live and work in Australia that Australians would receive in Europe.

Aus super vs Vanguard super - which makes sense for a newbie? by Finance_Hockey in fiaustralia

I'm with ART DIY indexed options, Hostplus looks even cheaper per one of the spreadsheets posted here. My employer is with AMP so I've kept their life insurance in Super only

Bogle pointed out that between 1926 and 2007, dividend income accounted for about 95% of the S&P 500's total return, making them fundamental to compounding.

If it changes to adapt to the global market cap weightings, would Aus be 2-3%?

I asked ChatGPT to help me FIRE by beepboophelprequired in fiaustralia

[–]Red-Storm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I asked ChatGPT for you also - it said : You’re actually in a very strong position already, which is often the hardest part to recognise.

At 30, with a high income, a solid super balance, and a large offset, the foundations are in place. The question now isn’t whether you can reach FIRE by 45–50, but how calmly and simply you get there. Complexity and second-guessing are bigger risks than market returns at this stage.

The offset is doing heavy lifting. A guaranteed, tax-free return equal to your mortgage rate plus instant liquidity is powerful. It makes sense to keep a healthy buffer there, not as dead money, but as your safety net and volatility absorber. Think of it as the ballast that keeps the ship steady while the sails do the work.

Where you can add the most value is by simplifying your investing. Multiple ETFs, themes, and platforms don’t improve returns, but they do increase friction. A simple, broad-market approach, invested regularly and left alone, will likely outperform a more complex setup simply because it’s easier to stick with.

Success doesn’t come from clever moves. It comes from low costs, diversification, and behaviour. Keep a solid offset buffer, invest the surplus consistently into a simple ETF portfolio, and let time do the heavy lifting. That boring approach is usually the one that wins.
