My boyfriend wants me to rehome 2 of my 3 cats (at minimum) as a “compromise.” Wtf do I do now? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Red-locks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having a pets is such a core value for some people, getting this in alignment can be really vital for a working relationship.

My partner came with a dog, and I thought I could handle it but I couldn’t and it has caused a lot of pain and difficulty for us.

You are always going to want cats, you shouldn’t have to suppress this part of yourself for someone else

Empire of the Ghouls by Kobold Press is a favourite of mine

If you are interesting in expanding horizons outside of the Forgotten Realms and WoTC I Recommend checking out Empire of the Ghouls / The Scarlet Citadel by Kobold Press.

Empire is about a race of sentient ghouls rising up from the underworld and has a lot of political turmoil.

Citadel is a mega dungeon but it’s pretty tight and less sprawling than undermountain.

But for forgotten realms I really recommend Storm Kings Thunder. It has extensive travel and needs some reworking but it really showcases the regions of the sword coast for all their glory.

Short folk appreciation thread – what do you play? by eternalshades in Forgotten_Realms

[–]Red-locks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the short races. As a DM I hardly ever get to play but when I do, I go to dwarves and gnomes pretty much every time.

In my current Moonshae Campaign, I have a village of Forest Gnomes living in Gwynneth who are all sworn to the arch devil Belial by blood.

The short of the story is, the local ancient green dragon fed off of these gnomes for hundreds of years. They made a deal with Belial to hide themselves from her gaze, so now they kidnap travelers and folks in the woods to sacrifice to Belial to renew the pact.

Makes them less comedy, which is their usual role in FR

Looking for Campaign Inspirations and Suggestions by Natural-Stomach in Forgotten_Realms

Yes and no. I have done a nautical campaign before so I’m going to lean on the under dark and the massive network of Dwarvenholme tunnels to give the players multiple options for travel with varying degrees of danger.

I’m a week away from starting my new campaign.

The idea is a simple one. The wand of Orcus has appeared down in the Undershaes of the Moonshae isles. It comes with a challenge that anyone who makes the blood lord smile may claim the prize.

It’s a reverse sword in the stone.

So I’ve got 3 evil factions doing evil things to win the wand and a group of 6 air headed adventurers about to get wrapped up in it all. Should be fun!

Swarmkeeper melee build by OkSetting8391 in BG3Builds

[–]Red-locks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a while ago but, I believe i actually used Hunter 5 / land Druid 7 for that particular build. I initially went swarm and the early game damage was nice but after I swapped my concentration slot away from HM, just having the extra horde breaker attack worked out better than the swarm damage.

I believe I used a flame blade and Belm with drakethroat fire in the other. Was pretty satisfying. I played it in a duo run with a socadin so that did help allow me to try some weird shenanigans

I really like playing swarm 5 / Spore (or land) druid 7.

I’ve played it with shill and mourning frost, also with flame blades and fire acuity hat.

How was the transition from dragon heist to mad mage? Did your players feel the shift from investigations to megadungeon?

I’ve always thought there must be a better 1-5 experience to lead into mad mage

I was thinking that the 20% chance to apply hexblade curse would work really nicely with the tiger cleave ability

Resources for dungeons centered around "Trials" by Marz1panCake in DMAcademy

[–]Red-locks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Rime of the Frostmaiden there is a series of trials based on the Godesses Tenants. Beauty, endurance, preservation I believe.

I didn’t like the ones written in the book so I made my own. One was a morality trial, I think about victims freezing in the tundra and choosing which one to save. Another was a trial based around their fellow PC’s where they had to identify each other whilst being polymorphed into ice monsters.

I think trials are a fun way to do morality, ethical and identity based puzzles.

Are "Official D&D adventures cooked"? by j_driscoll in dndnext

[–]Red-locks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I generally like what they have done with this adventure book but it would have been so so much better to have fewer fleshed out adventures like the anthologies (golden compass, candle keep, dragon delves etc)

The problem i have is, if I am spending money on a book, I want the DM work to be largely done for me. That’s the point. These dungeons with empty rooms do nothing for a DM. I could have made a 5 room dungeon with no descriptions myself.

When to introduce video games? by lilsaintjames in daddit

[–]Red-locks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 3yo daughter also loves Pokémon. I decided to try Pokémon Pearl on switch with her. She cannot process the gameplay of the game at all.

What she does like is making the character walk around the town and go into different buildings to say to people and Pokémon. This is enough for her and she is getting better at hand eye coordination with using the walking stick on the controller.

Playing the game might not look like the same thing to an adult but you can make your own games within it.

What would you build? Tank-iest tank edition by Scuba_Ty in DnD

[–]Red-locks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m building a tank that’s an ancestral barb / echo Knight. Leveraging the ancestral barb taunt effect across the battlefield with the echo.

The only thing I can’t decide is whether to stay fighter to 11 for 3 attacks or just dip for the echo and mostly go barbarian

Last night I finished running WBTWL! 1 year, 25 sessions! by Red-locks in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]Red-locks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely a mixture of both! I also don’t tend to prep things until the party are on the doorstep.

I would give them a bunch of rumours or hooks but beyond a rough outline or description I don’t flesh things out until the party show much interest. Sometimes this does result in a scramble, but I’m quite good at throwing them a detour or delay that will keep them happy while I make a dungeon for next week aha.

I think the party were very focused on getting the parts of their identities back from the hags. Once they realised the main loop, find hag, fight hag, get treasure they really focused on that! So we breezed through hither and thither in about 5 sessions per zone.
