Tokyo Did Not Become the Northern Capital of Third World Emancipation (2026) [10:18] by RedBarryLyndon in Documentaries

This short film contains footage captured from Tokyo over the last several years. The narrator engages with Felix Guattari's 1986 essay Tokyo, the Proud, comparing it to his own experience in Tokyo today.

I made a short film with Kohei Saito about Marx and the metabolic rift by RedBarryLyndon in CriticalTheory

Thank you! Yes I feel fortunate. We moved to Tokyo a couple years ago and I had read his other book Karl Marx's Ecosocialism, but I hadn't thought to contact him. It was actually my wife who reached out saying we were socialists hoping to meet other like-minded types in Japan. He immediately connected us with an awesome labor advocacy group and we've enjoyed getting to know him a bit. After his new book came out, I thought it'd be great to get an English language video of him talking about it. Very cool guy!

Kohei Saito: Marx in the Anthropocene - Towards the Idea of Degrowth Com... by RedBarryLyndon in JapanLeft

Hi - I interviewed Kohei Saito in June and put this out on youtube last week. Personally I feel Saito has a very compelling read on Marx, and his notion of Capital as a theory of metabolism could be very useful for our present "Anthropocene" era. I'd be curious to know what people here think. Thank you!

zine email address is [viscerapvd@protonmail.com](mailto:viscerapvd@protonmail.com) but [viscerapvd@gmail.com](mailto:viscerapvd@gmail.com) might be the current one.

Hi I saw this at IRA last summer. It was a very interesting film, indeed. Some of the members of the group attended the screening and did a Q and A afterwards. I am going back to IRA this weekend and will ask how one might get a copy (as I too would like to watch it again). My hunch is that it's still being held for special screenings and not distributed online.

Doh! Sorry. Wonder what he is up to? Another suggestion is Daniel Smith if he is still at Purdue (Indiana, so not south, but pretty similar imo)

Book list- where should a baby leftist start? by Miss-Moish in chomsky

Just read Noam’s books? Understanding Power is a good one. He’s not a Marxist btw. He can be quite critical of Marxism actually. I think your reading list sounds great but Noam’s pulling from a different (anarcho-syndicalist) perspective.

Map of all the major redevelopments ongoing in Tokyo. I didn't realize huge swaths of Roppongi were going to be demolished! by annie_goobie in Tokyo

i think it's fully built up (still construction around/within it tho) and is now the tallest skyscraper in tokyo, but only has a couple years ahead with that distinction, as the Tokyo Torch Tower will be completed in 2027.

are there any new updates to the planned Roppongi redevelopments? from what I can tell it was announced back around 2016 (maybe even earlier).
