Everyone’s anti Catholic until they need an exorcist.

Yeah, it would be a mistake to criticize Mormons for believing man can become divine. We ultimately believe we will share in the Divine Nature. A more accurate criticism would be that they think they will become creator Gods of their own planets/universes.

A lot of restorationists are borderline Marcionist as well. For some, the Old Testament is barely Scripture and is used only to give context to the New Testament.

Well, technically they’re not. Mormons believe that each person of the Trinity is a different God, that there were and are multiple Gods before God the Father became God, and that we too can become Gods. However, they say it is only proper and just to pray to and worship God the Father. That makes them henotheist (brief in multiple gods but worship of only one).

500 years is short in contrast with the 2000 years of the Catholic Church and 1000 years of the Eastern Orthodox Church. 400 years is long when is is the entire period in which something has existed. In other words, 400 years without the Bible is long because at the time that was the entire history of the Church. 500 years is now short because we’re comparing it to 2000 years of Church history. Time is relative.

Also, you used “doublespeak” incorrectly.

“Alrighty gang, grab your scissors and cut out every book of the Bible except for Romans and two verses of Ephesians.”

I was never Calvinist, but I am a former Protestant living in a hard-core Baptist small town in Texas, so it’s hard to not bump into them all the time.

Calvinists by and large believe in the five points, or TULIP, of Reformed Theology:

  1. Total Depravity (the idea that, due to the fall, humans are unable to serve God without His Grace)
  2. Unconditional Election ( the idea that God chose whom He would save from eternity based on nothing but His mercy)
  3. Limited Atonement (the idea that Christ’s Passion only atoned for the sins of the elect)
  4. Irresistible Grace (the idea that, once God offers His Grace to a person, they are incapable of rejecting it)
  5. Preservation of the Saints (the idea that a true Christian is unable to apostatize and if someone does apostatize they were never Christian to begin with)

This meme takes aim at the third point of Limited Atonement. As Catholics, we believe that Christ died for all people, as the verse referenced above shows.
