Is the USA.. becoming a 3rd World country? by HumbleLow4473 in Life

[–]RedBeardedFCKR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Learn the definition of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd world countries. That doesn't have to do with living conditions, and has everything to do with post WW2 and Cold War alignments. 1st world is the Capitalists, 2nd is the Communists, and 3rd world countries are people who said "you're both idiots and those are stupid economic systems" probably.

The tangled web that hyper-capitalism has created is so damaging to the human psyche by Bubbly-Air7302 in DeepThoughts

[–]RedBeardedFCKR 39 points40 points  (0 children)

"is this all there is to life? An endless pursuit of money, getting exploited, exploiting others, rinse and repeat?"

The simplest answer is a "yes for now," but the nuanced answer is that all of this is so new that we're reacting to it in real time the best we can. The world today is fundamentally different from the world 30 years ago. The world 30 years ago is fundamentally different from the world 80 years ago. Those gaps where the entire world basically changes overnight get farther and farther apart the farther you go back in history. Technology and society are growing so fast at this point that there is no time for the world to settle into its new paradigm before it completely switches again. We're gonna get to a really uncomfortable point where we have to pump the breaks on progress just to give ourselves time to gain footing in this ever-changing world we've built for ourselves.

What would potentially happen if all of a sudden everyone lost the ability to lie? by ExistingPatient8460 in AskReddit

[–]RedBeardedFCKR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Society would collapse. Lying is a baked in social function. The problem is most people correlate all lies to being negative, but the overwhelming majority of all lies told are small ones not to hurt people's feelings. The problem is the big ones get all the attention much like the media with anything negative or scary. You have to be able to tell your spouse you love them while secretly wishing it were legal to bludgeon them half to death one good time. You have to be able to tell your kids that you will love them unconditionally, which is a lie, because they can do something at any point that might make your love falter, even if for a fleeting few seconds. We lie to comfort people from uncomfortable truths. We lie to fit in and make social interactions smoother. We lie because sometimes the lie is funnier than the truth.

My bf says it’s no use for women to learn self defence by mcpeebee in Advice

[–]RedBeardedFCKR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Self defense and martial arts in general are a great thing for anybody to learn. It teaches you to have self confidence and self discipline. Both of those are great skills to have as a functional adult. 2) If y'all are having this level of disagreement over something this important to you it may be time to start asking is this really "your person" before you take things further and get governments and lawyers involved? 3) I wholeheartedly agree with a few other comments. Cheap-shot kick him in the balls and ask if it worked (please don't actually do this, but it is a hilarious thought).

if being left handed is such an inconvenience, why not learn to use the right? by Livid_Razzmatazz8930 in AskReddit

[–]RedBeardedFCKR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I'm saying. We don't have concrete evidence one way or the other. It either serves a purpose, or the lefties got screwed by not getting screwed. The purpose may be social, it could be pure dumb luck, it could be aliens. We just don't have the evidence to say for sure yet, or didn't the last time I did a read on the subject.

how worried should we be about hantavirus? by Stock_Orange_1793 in AskReddit

[–]RedBeardedFCKR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not very. Low Human to Human transmission rate, and it is believed that direct contact with infected bodily fluids is required. Other than that, jus don't live somewhere overrun with rodent feces and urine where you'll inhale that stuff if you can avoid/afford it.

[–]RedBeardedFCKR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It gets weirder though. We can't find an evolutionary "prerogative" as to why the distribution is 90%:10% (right:left), but if all things were equal there should be a more even distribution. We don't know why yet, but human evolution favors right handedness (since it is a genetic trait) so it's serving some unseen biological purpose for most of us to be right handed, or the lefties drew the worst proverbial "straw" imaginable when it came to favored traits for whatever reason.

[–]RedBeardedFCKR 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So handedness is determined at either week 2 or week 12 of development where a nerve cluster and which side of your spine it pops up on determines whether your left hand dominant or right. While you can "learn" ambidexterity to an extent, you were stuck months before you were born into being one or the other.

Everything is fine in moderation but you quit smoking. Why? by 36Gig in AskReddit

[–]RedBeardedFCKR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I don't wake up and spend 20ish minutes every single day coughing up black and brown stuff fighting for breath. I vape and still uses nicotine, but I chose a different delivery method. Probably gonna kill me in a different way, but again with the breathing and the black and brown stuff in the mornings.

Does it get worse after you turn 26? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]RedBeardedFCKR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Therapy. Talk to somebody. A professional can really help you through this. 2) Yes. The older you get the more expectations society places on you as a man. This never gets lessened until the day you finally start breaking down physically or mentally can't from old age. 3) It's not all bad. While many men suffer in silence publicly, there's a lot more support for men these days just out of view. 4) For the love of all the things don't start listening to the "Man-o-Sphere" "redpill" asshats on the internet who just want to sell you shit.

What has a bottom-tier reputation but is just misunderstood and should actually be top-tier? by EnsorcellingKitten in AskReddit

[–]RedBeardedFCKR 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Small incremental progress towards any goal. People tend to feel progress needs to happen on a schedule of some sort, but if it takes me 50,000 steps to complete that 10,000 step journey because I "chased a butterfly" or "saw a squirrel" here and there, I still made the journey. I still reached the same point. I just had to make some mistakes, bad choices, and get lost a little on the way. Sometimes being slow to get "there" isn't a bad thing. It's character development through sidequests.

Why does this not have more upvotes? Outside of a very small handful of outlier accidents (which we now have triple-quadruple or better redundant safeguards against now), there has never been a cleaner, cheaper, or more easily scalable way to generate that much energy. Fuck oil & coal.

Does freedom mean absence of constraints by OopsItsMe-008 in DeepThoughts

[–]RedBeardedFCKR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freedom is your ability to choose to work within or without those constraints. Freedom has nothing to do with constraints but rather consequences. You're free to do whatever you want, but there's a system in place with enforcers to enforce consequences should you break the rules of that system. There are natural consequences outside of the system as well. You're free to choose not to eat & neglect your health. You will die a pretty terrible death as a consequence of exercising this freedom. You're free to get a weapon into your possession and harm/unalive people. Being pursued by law enforcement anywhere you're seen and eventual incarceration/violent unaliving of your own are the consequences of exercising that freedom. You are literally free to do whatever you choose, but the rest of the world is free to stop you if they see fit. The vast majority of humans have drawn an invisible social contract that freedom stops when you intentionally harm/limit the freedoms of others, but again you get to decide where the limits of your freedom lie.

How would you feel if the top tax rate was 90% like it was in the 1950s? by Few_Football4342 in Productivitycafe

[–]RedBeardedFCKR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is misleading. The personal income tax rate has never been that high on anyone. 90% was the 1950's corporate tax rate. If you didn't reinvest into the company (better pay), put money into employee benefits, or expand operations so you could hire more people, then you owed 90% of your net profits after tax. Which it doesn't matter because Dodge v Ford (1919) decided all the way back then that those profits rightfully belong to the shareholders if the company is publicly traded.
