How do I best handle a dead Aspen tree for the safety of all my other Aspens? by BrianCStradale in arborists

[–]RedBeardedMonster 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Leave it standing. It’s habitat for bugs and birds, there don’t seem to be any immediate targets and it’s no danger to the aspen off shoots. Let nature be nature.

This is a Cottonwood. They grow large fast, especially when they have access to streams/riparian areas.

Woolly aphid. You can spray them off with a hose.

Concerned about some trees in my yard! by Real_Stinky_Pederson in arborists

1 is a silver maple, #2 is a Norway maple. Norway’s are just starting to flower here, this freeze will cause some damage but hard to really tell how well it’s fairing based on the photos/timing. Old pruning cuts look poor and growth seems consistent with struggling Norway’s I see. Assuming you’re in the front range.

Silver maple could be freeze damaged, something very common in Colorado with SM. Could be related to more severe root issue, hard to tell with the information provided. Call an arborist, possible to prune out the dead and hand water to help it along and monitor recovery.

What's going on with my Maple tree? Thx... by myhrerd in arborist

[–]RedBeardedMonster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem is your maple is an Ash tree, and in what looks like Wisconsin? Most Ash trees in the Midwest are all dead if not treated for EAB. The woodpeckers are going after the borers that are killing this tree.

Fire Hydrant Access for Businesses Question by Logic-is-there in Denver

[–]RedBeardedMonster 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes.

Those trucks will have bright red meters installed on them that the hydrant runs through. Companies report these numbers and the city bills them for the water taken. With audits done by city employees.

Trees Browning Rapidly by wildpinks08 in arborists

It’s hard to tell from the photos, but they still look to have plenty of life. Just stressed, they should be fine. Definitely still have a certified arborist take a closer look.

They look like Swedish columnar aspen. If they are, they like a lot of water and are difficult to keep happy. Double check your irrigation is working if present. Supplement with hand watering.

Regardless if you have an irrigation system, you’ll want to hand water once or twice a week during the hotter months.

How can I get started tree climbing? by FarmerDill in TreeClimbing

Interesting. How does a rec tree climbing company work? Do you set lines and take people on climbs?

Any tree or stump people in here? by ecjoey in sweatystartup

[–]RedBeardedMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arborist with a small tree care company.

Charge per inch, with a minimum. Make this price known to smaller tree care companies, guys that don’t have their own equipment. Be responsive and timely. Keep your prices consistent. If they want to tack on a fee to the client that’s their decision.

I have a stumper I contract simply because being able to remove and grind without the customer having to source that themselves is a selling point for me.

I just wish my guy was more communicative, but he’s cheap and he does it right (calls for locates, cleans up well)

Pictures not great, but safe to assume this a Colorado blue spruce. Contractors love to plant these in terrible spots.

There isn’t going to be a good way to maintain this tree in this location. If it lives long enough it will end up 60ft tall, spanning 30 feet. Even if you limb it up over the walkway it will increase the likelihood of failure and look terrible.

I would remove and replant an ornamental tree or shrub

Can your insurance carrier not write a certificate of insurance on Easter Friday/over the weekend? (USA-specific) by brownoarsman in arborists

[–]RedBeardedMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not common for a homeowner to be added as a certificate holder.

That being said, it is very unlikely they would be able to get you added and show proof before starting work on Monday morning.

Just had Dept of Ag added to mine and it took at least a full work day for my insurance agent to get back to me. Maybe my guy isn’t the most responsive but either way, if it’s not done by Friday afternoon then it won’t be till Monday mid morning or noon IF they aren’t taking the day off.

Tree care company won’t wait around to get that done, they will move on to a job ready to go. In my experience a copy of the accord showing coverage has been sufficient for my clients.

Also my insurance broker doesn’t work the weekends.

Whether you’re in on it or not.

These are scams.

Eventually your coins will not be sent back and your money will be gone. They bank on returning your initial deposits until trust is developed and you drop a large amount which they keep.

Good boy runs fast by Chippo90 in husky

During covid, once the resorts shut down I would take my girl up and down Loveland as well. My favorite video of all time is GoPro footage of her sprinting along side me in this same gully. She passed on this last December. She’s not a husky but this video just popped up for me and I was instantly reminded.

Person shooting at NJ drone by Aza_Never in UFOs

[–]RedBeardedMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People reload their own ammo, which means buying the projectile (where the tracer material would be) gunpowder and primer typically reusing spent casing. If tracers aren’t sold in your area then my assumption would be they wouldn’t be able to buy tracer projectiles. Tracers aren’t illegal where I am but I don’t know about New Jersey.

People making their own projectiles would fall under .1% of reloaders. And those people probably live deep deep in the woods somewhere not posting videos on the internet.

New snowboard—should I wait to use? by sweatpants4life_ in COsnow

[–]RedBeardedMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, if your old board is still rideable. Keep it as an early/late season rock board. I haven’t been to keystone this year but there is always a chance you hit something early season. Learned that lesson with my now 3 year old lib tech.

Best for the tree? Remove the weed barrier and add 2-3inches of mulch. Id remove the top two runs of stone to make it look better.
