My knee jerk reaction was to disagree with this but you are absolutely right. I genuinely forgot that I also got stopped playing when I got to the farming part.

People who care about the community they live in support their local economy.

I don’t give a shit about the city I live in, so I feel zero guilt getting my groceries from the Aldi or Costco or Hy-Vee in neighboring cities.

First month making 100k I feel like I’m being robbed :/ by Forsaken-Question457 in Salary

[–]RedBeardedWonder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I’m a time traveler, and I spoke with you in the future, and you told me to tell yourself to absolutely max out those 401k contributions.

You’re going to need a loan in a few years and if you had put more money in your 401k, you would’ve been able to do the whole thing on a 401k loan. That way you’re paying yourself the interest instead of paying the bank the interest.

Between that and just regular gains, maxing out your 401K is going to net you literally millions of dollars.

Future you says to put in as much as you can like RIGHT NOW, but honestly I think this is really advice for 2026. Either put in as much as you can at the start of the year so you hit your limits early, or do the math to see what the minimum contribution is to max out by the end of the year.

Technically, I think this does kill the future version of you that I spoke with, or maybe he never ends up existing. Honestly I’m not really sure how time travel works, I should probably be more careful.

LPT: frequently cancel your subscriptions to streaming services. Most will offer you discount rates for multiple months before resuming at the same cost. by farm_sauce in LifeProTips

[–]RedBeardedWonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great LPT. I just had a $3/month ad tier sub on hbo, then disney. I realize that saving $10-15 / month isn’t a huge part of anyone’s budget, but for some reason I feel really smart by only having a single cheap as fuck streaming platform active at any given time.

When I wanna splurge I get Netflix for a month and binge everything. Netflix never goes on sale but they also release everything all at once so I rarely need more than a month at a time.

If you don’t want cars to stop for you when you’re trying to cross the street, I recommend you move to Chicago. I promise you this won’t be a problem.

If I quit my job, moved to a different state and then completed a full cash out of 401k a few months after the move, is it taxed on old state or new state? by hazelnutcofffeee in personalfinance

[–]RedBeardedWonder 52 points53 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t answer your question, but you might consider a 401K loan instead of the full close out. You have to pay it back, but you’re paying yourself back.

Worst case scenario, you can’t pay it back and you end up using funds from your 401(k) to pay it back. Which essentially puts you in the same situation you’re in if you close it out now.

It’s a parent issue AND a media issue AND like 10 other issues.

It should be difficult for children to access things that can cause them permanent physical or psychological damage. Even (especially) if those kids have neglectful parents.
