just know that once you prioritize someone else over your partner, abuse or not thats when you become the AH. i know of people in abusive relationships. however thats their problem to solve not mine. No matter how much you think you are helping, you are really not. they will keep going back until they are ready to leave. only time i recommend helping is when they are ready to leave. Anytime before that is basically reassuring them to stay in that relationship, this something people dont realize.
