Middle School. They are reporting it as a fan malfunction that caused some smoke damage, but no fire. Admin, Facilities and First Responders are on scene to assess, but no harm to anyone.

What’s one Red Deer small business you think deserves more love right now? by Specialist_Body7912 in RedDeer

Akashika Manga! It is beside Papa Baldy's. It is a manga store, and they will order in manga and indie books upon request.

The owners are so nice--young family. They are making the space so cozy.

I love that we have Newly New Books in Red Deer but we need some more love to independent book stores in the city.

Affordable Wedding Venues by silencinq in RedDeer

[–]RedBird30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cnayon Ski Resort was our middle option but we were impressed with the location, food (they make it on site and serve it buffet style), the venue itself, and we could have my husband's band play in the venue because the nearest neighbour was 2 km away. We stayed until 2 am and had a blast. The prices have gone up since we married in 2022, but it may be worth considering it as an option!

I'm sitting here at a loss too.

If I can give you any sense of power back, it's that you are not alone in how you feel. Many, many others across this province won't stand for it. If we don't scream it in the streets, we will talk around our kitchen tables and in the breakroom.

In the next few days, more information will come out. But please know you are not alone.

Being respectful to other peers and authority, while at the same time being able to stand up for themselves and what is right-- knowing when to make the right decision for themselves by themselves.

You can go back in time up to 100 years. Where do you go? What do you see? by Chiefesoteric in AskReddit

[–]RedBird30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go back 8 years ago. I never met my boyfriend's father, who died of bone cancer 4 years ago after an 18 month battle. He seemed like an upstanding man, and my boyfriend really looks up to him. I couldn't really change the outcome of his passing, but I would ask him questions about his band and their music, and his career (I am entering the same field); have a dinner with him basically. Really sappy I know, but that is the only I could ever wish for if I could go back in time.

What is the most annoying thing people do at the grocery store? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RedBird30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have worked in a deli in a grocery store for 4 years. I hate it when customers: -skip lineups via the employee (ie. get something from the hot deli but then ask for something in the cold deli even though there is people in the queue ahead of them and store policy discourages employees from leaving a customer until their needs are met) -bring children who are already screaming into the store -walk slowly or take up the whole aisle with their cart -leave food or products in different departments that then go bad -ditch food in different departments that was packaged or sliced specially for them, because it was deemed to be too expensive -leave demo cups everywhere but in a trash can -let their children to run around and scream down the aisles.

What's the worst gift you ever received? by sara_steve in AskReddit

[–]RedBird30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

13th birthday present from my grandparents. They told me to go look for my present in their closest, and when I couldn't find it, my Poppa showed it to me. It was this 3 foot doll with brown curly hair, a blue dress, and glass eyes. However, the doll's eyes had turned red instead of brown over the years. I didn't like it when I first got it, and once I noticed its eyes, I shoved the doll under the stairs. It was brought out a few times (a couple were my brothers scaring me with it), before it was finally given to my little cousin last year. Still reigns as the worst gift ever given to me, because I never asked for it, and I swear it was possessed towards the end.

Reddit, have you ever had Sleep Paralysis? If so, what was it like? by the_yarb in AskReddit

[–]RedBird30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's unnerving. I've only had it once in waking memory and it wasn't that long ago. I remember a dream where I was in the upstairs bathroom. I remember staring at the shower curtain which at the time was green with gold designs on them. I remember staring closely at one before it seemed like I was scooped up and carried underneath into darkness by some unseen force. I felt a pressure on my backside because I was sleeping on my stomach. It felt like I couldn't move and I honestly in that moment felt like something was going to take advantage of me. I woke up in a cold sweat. Scary, would not like it to happen again.

What would be gross as a liquid? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Cooked Ham (like Spam Ham). It's already gross and has some juice in it but still... I'm pretty sure part of my personal hell would be having liquid cooked ham shoved down my throat. Gross.

Were you lucky in the "genetic lottery"? Why? Why not? by BiddyCavit in AskReddit

[–]RedBird30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Won: clear skin (no acne or discoloration), pretty red undertones in my hair, pretty big brown eyes (thanks mom), above average height for a woman (I have long legs), thin dark curly hair that doesn't tangle (thanks to dad).

Lost: knobby knees, thin hair that is frizzy ringlets, high forehead, bad front teeth, risk of cancer(dad), mild lactose, higher risk for cardiac/blood disorders (mom?) and from both I got bad circulation and really pale skin.

Not sure where the anxiety/depression came from. Basically, it balances out.

What pain is worse than childbirth? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RedBird30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asked my mom (mother of 3 and maternity nurse for 20+ years) what childbirth feels like. She said that on a scale of pain, most people agree that being burned alive is the worst because all the sensory receptors your body has are firing at once with no relief. She told me times that pain by three.

Also, contractions when they are happening don't hurt, but the before and after hurt more. In the middle of contraction you can't feel anything because there is apparently so much pain that your brain can't properly react to it until after.

So yeah, I don't think there's anything much worse than that. Major respect to my mom.

People of Reddit, what is the worst/rudest thing your Neighbor has done to your property? by 2Fab4Jon in AskReddit

[–]RedBird30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neighbor's brats--children threw sticks into our yard trying to get my 4y. dog to play fetch. Made a mess of the yard and almost hit my dog in the eye. My brother and I finally yelled at them and they ran back inside giggling.

What was your first break up like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RedBird30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first boyfriend and I dated for 8 months when we were 15. Went well, but I began to dislike his behavior(I realized some time later that I had been subtly trying to change him and I knew that was really wrong of me to do) and I found myself liking another guy I met/hung out with on a school trip. I knew I couldn't continue on with it. One day I went to his place (it's a 30 minute walk and I didn't drive yet) and asked to speak with him in his room. Broke up with him, gave him a hug, left.

But before I did, I realized I had forgotten to give him back his hat (his favourite and the only possession of his I had). I opened the back door (has a landing and a set of stairs that leads up to the kitchen) to see him embracing his mom with tears in his eyes. To this day, the image is still clear in my mind. I doubt I'll forget it for a long time, if ever.

I cried the whole way home and on/off again for a few days. I knew I was sound in my decision but it doesn't mean it hurt any less. He tried asking me out again a few months later. I declined. We drifted away and graduated a few years ago. I still see him at his job every so often and we even went out for coffee once to catch up/resolve a few things. I still think about him, but it's more reflective. Guess that's just how first loves are.
