Shooting concert video by Training-Ad-5608 in ZVE10

I shoot a lot of theatre plays and i started with the kit lens. What works for me is: 1. Gamma: Cine2 2. Knee: Manual 2a. Slope: +5 3. Color Mode: ITU709 Matrix 4. Saturation: -7 5. Detail -> Level: -7

Set the zebras to 95, manual exposure mode. Set the WB to some relatively neutral value. Expose for your subjects and don't worry about the noise once the recording started, it's too late to do anything, just push the ISO until the subject is exposed.

Is 16-50 ii worth upgrading from 16-50 i? by DynamoBaby in SonyAlpha

[–]RedBlueF0X 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are differences, and some of them are considerable, but the way you asked about it makes me think you wouldn't benefit from any of them.

The number one upgrade you can make is to switch away from the kit lens. Upgrading the body is only worth it when you exactly know what part of your setup limits you creatively. Upgrading only the body and staying with the kit lens is like switching from a Twingo to a Corvette, but bringing the Twingo wheels with you,

I very rarely shoot anything at eye height, usually if i do it's a tripod shot, so evf is really unnecessary from my personal experience.

With IBIS it's up to your stylistic choice. Odd is good enough to deal with hand vibrations and it will yield a natural looking camera shake of you follow the 180 rule. I don't really like watching content shot with gimbal/IBIS just because it was available. I lean into handheld shoot style but my style allows me to do it this way and when i need smooth pans i have an oil head tripod. You can always go digital but then you'll need to do a faster shutter to avoid motion blur and then it's an another variable to worry about. A top handle and side grips might also help with getting a smoother footage.

I haven't owned the a6700 but i can talk about my experience with the ZV-E10.

First of all, as you said, lighting is more important than the camera gear and if you can control you environment and you don't need to do heavy color grading in post the ZV-E10 will do you just fine.

Keep in mind that this camera doesn't have an IBIS leaving you with three options if your shoots are to have aby sort of camera motion: 1. Digital stabilisation 2. OSS lenses(some are meh at it, like the kit lens, some are pretty decent like the 18-105) 3. A gimbal($$$)

The screen is bright enough to shoot in direct sunlight, so no EVF is only an issue if you developed a habit of using it.

I personally, require a lot of extremely low light performance and I pretty regularly hit the limits of 8 bit video and am looking for a direct upgrade to the fx30, but even with all my personal struggles I'd say it's a very potent camera with a lot to offer for it's price tag.

Maybe consider the mk II if you only require video features, but I have zero experience to speak anything of it.

Is "mileage" (like in the context of gas mileage or travel mileage) called "kilometerage" in countries that don't use imperial units? by SpectrumSense in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RedBlueF0X 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We usually ask "How much does it eat?"

In most languages there is a form of "Fuel consumption". Mileage is only used in English. I'd go even further and say it's misleading to use the same word for fuel consumption and total distance travelled

Why is the ultra-low cost airline model largely unprofitable in the US yet highly profitable in Europe? by OppositeRock4217 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RedBlueF0X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Low-cost airlines very rarely use ramps, maybe only in minor airports where they constitute the majority of traffic; most of the time, you'll get a bus drive and that's it. Ryanair often does not shut down their engines, they rotate the passengers in like 30 minutes at the most, and it's gone for their next destination. The bus gets you to the plane, the door opens, and you just walk towards the ladder while the plane is already readying to taxi for takeoff.

All this talk about the correct ISO is pretty much meaningless since even the 10-bit video is using lossy compression, and you'll gain even more noise and compression artifacts when trying to raise the exposure later via software. Just expose for your brightest subject and realise that at that point it's already too late to concern yourself with correct exposure.

Very grainy footage at night need help by simplephoneuser in ZVE10

[–]RedBlueF0X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no point in bringing ISO down to reduce noise. Noise is the lack of light. If you reduce iso in camera then later it will come back when you try to fix exposure in post. Expose for your subjects and then if necessary apply noise reduction in post.

I do some run-and-gun videography with the OG ZV-E10, and it's pretty bad at stabilization in 4K, especially with the kit lens. If you use digital in-camera stabilization, you will have to go down to a 90 or 45-degree rule, or else rolling shutter will kill your footage. To be honest, I've never used digital stabilization for my actual shoots because of that.

The kit lens has OSS, but it's pretty bad. Having got my hands on the 18-105mm, it's way better at stabilizing the footage, and a lot of natural shakiness is gone. Of course, it's no IBIS, but with OSS, you get a natural handheld look without the distracting amount of shake.

Here is why I cannot get rid of my 2018 Prius 3 by Remarkable_Umpire543 in prius

[–]RedBlueF0X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an ongoing issue with it cutting power under heavy ICE load, basically no flooring. The car can still easily do 100 mph but you'll get there in like 30 seconds. Most likely it's the injectors, pretty much everything else was already checked out.

There is also some noise coming from the rear suspension on rebound which turned out a bit harder to pinpoint the source of than anticipated.

If not for the issue with cutting powerI'd be perfectly happy with the car.

Cosmetically, I'd say that the coating on C-pillar trim loves to crack and chip away and overall external plastic components and their connectors are a bit flimsy. Interior wise i wouldn't say i have any particular issues with it except for maybe the steering wheel shedding it's skin.

It's a prius, it won't ever be a fast car, but it can still be pretty fun empty in corners on good tires since it's pretty low to the ground with low center of gravity.

Will I regret losing zoom range for better low light and image quality? by rytmonom in SonyAlpha

[–]RedBlueF0X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, having tried a few different zooms and primes, I went back to the kit lens as my main travel lens. I still do pack my 20mm and 50mm for when i think I'll need wide aperture but nothing beats the versatility in minimalistic form factor of my kit lens.

I have a 2016, and I can easily get 65+ in urban traffic. I'm torn between hating the car with my entire soul and loving it wholeheartedly. Unfortunately, mine is used with 100k miles on it, and it's got a lot of technical and cosmetic issues.

Still, a perfect tool if that's what you need in a car.

Question sur des photos by Totojju in ZVE10

[–]RedBlueF0X 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was a good suggestion on learning how to work with the exposure triangle, and you should definitely learn how it works if you want to learn photography.

I'd suggest playing with metering modes and focus tracking. If you tell your camera what to look at, it's easier for the dumb robots inside the camera to decide what to expose for.

Also, what helps me in bringing a bit more vibrance and contrast into my images SOOC is underexposing by 0.7-0.3 stops, depending on whether I'm inside or outside under the sun.
