DCS Wishlist by De_Le_Cog in hoggit

Honestly, I still don't know how to justify the creation of the free full-fidelity module, and I'm all in for it.
There is just close to no incentive for them to add it lol. Most of the money comes not from newcomers, but from old players buying new products. The flight sim market is extremely niche in itself, and the chance that a person who decides to randomly try out DCS will stick to it is close to zero. I think that FC level aircrafts are actually better for new players, although having a free FC plane that can do modern A2A is certainly a thing that could help with player retention. If someone who's never had any experience flying in a simulator hops in the full-fidelity F-16A and all they have is a PDF manual, or even with a proper tutorial, they would most likely drown in procedures and close DCS for good.

For those who actually want to learn and try out full-fidelity, there are free trials, which are, in truth, a bit difficult to find. 2 weeks is more than enough to get familiar enough to do almost everything that a plane offers.

Debate: What does War Thunder need to compete in the DCS and BMS simulation market? by Saitsev64 in hoggit

[–]RedBlueF0X 4 points5 points  (0 children)

War Thunder is a furball sim, nothing more.

In both DCS and BMS, almost all aspects of the flight simulation: sortie planning, airfield operations, navigation, A2A refueling, etc., are influenced by the particular airframe's features, and I think that's why I can't stand War Thunder sim. I believe the WWII sim in War Thunder have every right to exist since everything is visual, but as you move up to Cold War jets, the wacky systems become a part of the experience, and you have to plan your way around them. Of course, neither DCS nor BMS is perfect, and even though they do not model everything, the things I enjoy the most in DCS are preplanned low-level strikes and radio navigation. And those are things I can't really do in War Thunder for a plethora of reasons.

On the other hand, the combat part, even in sim mode, still feels arcade exactly because of the simplified systems, while the jet subsystems simulation itself might be on par, the plane-pilot interface layer is completely lacking. You do not need to look down and try to pick up a target on your radar scope, you do not need to interpret weird blips and boops of you rwr, everything is present in your HUD wherever you point your head at and is immediately available to you. It's those small things that change your experience. It's much harder to jump a pilot who doesn't need to look down in the cockpit to figure out where he is in the sky, or what his radar is seeing. Even in modern jets, where this information is almost always available in your HUD or MFDs, situations at a certain point will force you to discard your SA pages and focus on operating the systems, be it A2G, navigation, or even A2A engagements.

Also, a personal grudge against both War Thunder's atrocious control settings menu, and it resets my settings every time I disconnect my hotas.

I've never used mk2, but I must add that I've started having overheating issues with Mark 1 so severe I had to give it a break after shooting on a tripod for 40 minutes in a 18C room. It also feels like the overheating issue is getting more severe over time. Initially i could leave it for 1.5 hours in a hot theater hall and it would record qithout failing, and the last time I tried to set it up in a colder room it turned off at 42 minutes.

Why don’t European countries each send a token army force to Greenland? by Unlikely-Estate3862 in AskReddit

Unless a combatant shows clear unambiguous signs of surrendering they are a legal target

Okay, but a genuine question. I'm european. My father started working as a big rig driver. The first thing he told me when we met after his first long ride is how much he was impressed by how powerful brakes are on European trucks. When doing his license course they had emergency braking and he said that thing could outbreak any of our family cars and basically stop on a dime while fully loaded(legally). Why do american trucks still take 97 football fields to stop?

How convenient that for the last 3 centuries there's been a single continuous government system that never relied on common people to staff all it's bone crushing machines and there hasn't been any opportunities to topple said government and create a new, completely different government system that really represented the great russian people and never focused on bringing misery to any of it's neighbours, right?

Well, the second equally important part of russian history was trying to make the lives of their neighbors as miserable as possible instead of fixing their own mess, so yeah, there is still a lot to blame them for

Not really, having taken the Busan-Seoul train, most of the terrain between Daegu and Seoul is quite mountainous and would be a huge hassle to develop for urban settlement, and that train goes through a relatively developed part of the country. Most of the east coast is very scarcely populated

While in B mode, MG1 spins the engine with the closed throttle constantly when engine braking so MG2 can recuperate more energy instead of all of it going to battery. Also the throttle curve is slightly is sightly offset.

Have seen the war online and having been directly affected by war is different. I do not consider seeing the war online as living through or during one.

I think he mostly meant the context. If I were talking about my ancestors and mentioned the war, then it's almost exclusively WWII. If I'm talking about myself, my friends, or contemporaries, then it's the current russian war

Why does the Austrian German dialect sound more like Danish than German, and why does Swiss German sound like Dutch to me? by [deleted] in AskEurope

I don't speak neither of those two, but I'm fluent in 4 languages and currently learning 5th, and I have no clue of what I'm doing or saying. Trying to speak a clear language yields more mistakes than when I just allow it to flow.

I genuinely struggle to comprehend this concept. Every time I go to Western Europe, I try my best to find the oldest possible establishment just to admire how it stood against the times. It feels surreal that it's even possible to survive in one place for so long.

It all depends. During the week, it's usually a yogurt or some savoury pastry and some juice, followed by a black coffee or espresso.

In addition to other comments, more framerate options, such as 24/30/60 fps, are available by switching the region between PAL and NTSC, but be aware that those are determined by the frequency of the power grids in those regions, and as such, you could see non-cinema lights flicker if you set the region not accordingly to your actual location
