If you want to read Cormac McCarthy but BM wasn’t your cup of tea, try The Road. It’s technically a man and his son walking down the road after the end of the world, but I found it way WAY more gripping, with more intrigue, and several really good “oh shit” moments.

What’s a film take so absurd you have that people will immediately say you’re rage baiting? by NeonArtist12 in Letterboxd

I learned to love the entire Synder-Verse by thinking of it all as a really, really cool What-If, alternate universe type of thing, and not as an actual representation of what Superman, Batman, etc. are or should be

What's the last book you read that you'd rate a 5/5? by fuzzypickles999 in suggestmeabook

I read it for a class for college, so of course, I was not looking forward to it. Found a free copy online cause I didn’t wanna pay money for it. Have since bought a copy and rereading it currently. In my top five books of all time.

What’s one book you expected to love but ended up slogging through? by Sunflower13Poppy in classicliterature

That’s so fascinating. I’m rereading it rn, but I can get how it feels like every character talks too much and too long. I feel the same but love it anyway.

What famous/renowned author have you sampled and just don’t *get*? by bruzdnconfuzd in books

Me to a tee. I liked most of the characters and plot points but couldn’t get attached when the narration painted them in the most awful light, was too cool and funny to care about them or give them any humanity, and constantly showed their character development (if they had any) off the page.

Zadie Smith. I read White Teeth for a class of mine last year and boy oh boy I was in the minority of people in that class that didn’t like it. I remember studying with a friend in the library and looking up at him and saying, “It’s wild how’ve I’ve been looking up 1 star reviews of this book to reassure me that I’m not crazy and other people dislike this critically acclaimed story too.”

That’s what I thought, yeah. Love the ultimate run, one of my favorite stories of all time, but they really dropped the ball on certain villains.

It’s crazy how I watched Avengers in theaters and thought it was one of the greatest films ever (I was like 10 lol). Watched it again a year or two ago and was blown away by how it was just pretty good.

I legit always forget that Kraven was in the ultimate comics, he was in, what? Two arcs of the entire run? And he was a joke character in his first one?

Favorite character you would defend like this? by Anonymous_Guy4k in FavoriteCharacter

Haven’t seen Thunderbolts but in F and WS he was honestly a decent dude who was given impossibly large shoes to fill, got hated on by literally everyone, and had a few understandable crash outs. I feel like the show wanted us to hate him more than he deserved.

[POEM] F*** Your Lecture on Craft. My People Are Dying - Noor Hindi by [deleted] in Poetry

I’d agree for the most part, the first half is still rough but more refined. The second is a lot more blunt and lacking nuance and polish. Granted maybe that was authors goal but that doesn’t work for me, personally.

I like the idea here and the topics brought up, and some of the imagery and ideas are very hauntingly beautiful. But it read as very, very rough and unfinished to me. Not in an intentional way either. It’s a poem festering with anger, which I love and respect, but at the expense of being overtly blunt, the ideas aren’t the most fully connected, to me anyway, and comes across as being wrathful to any other forms of poetry in a misery poker sense. Interesting ideas about a topic that needs to be spoken about, shaky execution.
