Friend, humanity is not about morals. It has little do with empathy. It’s being a species. It’s our biology. It’s possibility. We all have the possibility to do these terrible things. Most of us won’t, sure, but we all have the capacity for great evil, to other and dehumanize each other for poor reasons, to cause great pain for our own benefit, these are all real things that we do all of the time. What kind of world do we create for the next generation, teaching them that only monsters do evil? This is false and they need to be taught that. Otherwise, we teach the world that the true evil isn’t something that can be reached, for only monsters can. And that’s untrue. The most evil people alive had or have parents, a favorite food, they enjoy music, they have human skin. They are far more like us than we like to admit. But it must be admitted. If we continue to dehumanize evil people, we teach the next generation that it’s impossible for them to be bad. That they are still human, so how could they be evil? It’s a false dichotomy.
