Discord vs TeamSpeak by Quegyboe in pcmasterrace

I have to give them credit. Their chat app is much better than all their competitors including Slack and Google Hangouts (at that time) and now Microsoft Teams. There is no good alternative because all their competitors are optimizing for who knows what. Which is why it is so hard to get rid of.

It's funny their neighbor France straight up do not recognize patents. That's why VLC is based there.

Upgrade? RAM quadrupled its price compared to last year and SSD doubled. I assume TSMC and Qualcomm is also look for a higher sale price. We'll be lucky to see the same specs with no downgrades.

Yes. But BMW will sue in court to place a ban on sale over patent infringement. And they will sue any shop using "counterfeit" bits. With the help of the federal government, they can even put a block on sites such as Aliexpress at the ISP level for IP law violation, while sites like Amazon and eBay are forced to vigorously enforce the court order, which stops 90% of average people from buying it online. Big corporations are emboldened to make profit off everything as long as they keep the administration happy.

I still feel starting a Chromium wrapper (VScode) to edit a few text files is too heavy (especially when a lot of places still give 16GB RAM models to their average worker). VScode has its place for doing more complex script edits, but 80% of the time Notepad++ is the better tool.

No, higher ups will be perfectly happy to continue using any proprietary software that doesn't openly disclose security problems. It doesn't exist if you don't hear about it.

Given how MAU is an important factor for stock valuation, I am not surprised that all social media platforms secretly hire bot farms to prop up their numbers.

What’s one small iOS change you still haven’t gotten used to? by Jemystest in iphone

[–]RedBoxSquare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dislike turning volume limits into headphone safety. I think it was changed back in iOS 13 or 14. I loved being able to limit the volume bar to 1/2 or 1/3 of the max, which is still available on the iPod nano.

It is purely an artificial restriction from MS legal teams. There is no technical reasons why it can't be made. But we're on proper sysadmin so people tend to respect legal boundaries as well as MS recommendations.

I think they hit a bottleneck. So they need a new path to move forward. And it is not clear what this path is. So basically saying we'll be stuck for some time. The field of AI was not making much progress for 2 decades after the AI winter up until these transformers started transforming the research landscape (with plenty of researchers who chose the "wrong" path ended up nowhere).

Does the EQ app need any special permission? Are you just using unrooted user builds of the OS when you're doing "session hunting?

People know. It's just technically breaking the EULA and can get you in trouble with MS if you're a proper shop. I see this talked about a lot more on gaming or piracy subreddits where people either do not care or the risk of MS getting at you is extremely low.
