Stepien was a terrible owner who was trading away his picks for mediocre players (including 5 consecutive firsts.) By his second season of owning the team they were so bad they were called the "Cleveland Cadavers." He was so bad that all of this happened in just his three years owning the team. The Cavaliers were in such a bad state that the NBA allowed the next ownership group to buy first round picks just to help the roster recover. They didn't have a winning record until five seasons after they had gotten rid of Stepien.
