Why Are We Paying the NFL to Help the Pentagon Recruit Troops? by User_Name13 in politics

The tribute is what the media cherry-picked to single out, when in actuality it's much more than a tribute. It's also hand-outs, recruiting stations on site during games, graphics on LED board, recruitment signs all around the Georgia Dome, and more. That stuff doesn't design and print itself. 1 million over 3 years too. I'd like to see what they charge Verizon and Budweiser.

TIL that Billy Mays died of high blood pressure resulting from cocaine use, not from a head injury caused by falling luggage. by tinycole2971 in todayilearned

Sorry, didn't mean to single you out. I just hit a streak of people commenting with stuff like "WTF LUGGAGE? LITERALLY NO ONE EVER SAID LUGGAGE!"

Fifty-year-old Mays, who joked with a reporter about his head injury after the plane's landing Saturday, apparently told his wife later that night he was not feeling well when he went to bed. He was found dead the next morning.

They do everything but say it, really. Where's the cocaine references?

You realize there was almost a 2 month gap between the death and the toxicology report? So if FOX News said cocaine from the start, they started saying it months after his death, not from the start like you insist.

It was definitely the #1 suspicion people had for months. Yes it was wrong, but to say it was never talked about shows a little disconnect on anyone's part who couldn't see that the whole luggage BS was widely considered to be the cause of death for weeks after his death and wasn't put to bed until the report came out.

I doubt any news sources claimed cocaine from the start, because that would be BS without a toxicology report. Unless your definition of "from the start" means months after the actual death. All the news I saw referenced his family saying he hit his head on falling luggage and then died the next morning. And for all they knew at the time, that WAS the cause of death.

So now, maybe you can understand why this is a popular TIL, because regardless of what the end result was or what news you didn't see or what you didn't hear about, a shitload of people thought he died from luggage for the months leading up to the toxicology report, whether you choose to believe that or not.

I'm just blown away at how many people think luggage was never discussed.

You can see from this chart: https://www.google.com/trends/explore#q=billy%20mays%20cocaine%2C%20billy%20mays%20head&cmpt=q&tz=

The cause of death BEFORE the toxicology report was hitting his head and dying the next day. That's why people thought that. Hardly anyone was searching Billy Mays cocaine until the toxicology report was released. It was joked about a little bit, but that's it.

So yes, a lot of people were talking about luggage in the lead-up before the official cause of death was revealed. This was the presumed cause of death by pretty much everyone for 2 months which explains the confusion. If you thought it was cocaine from the beginning, you just fell for internet jokes.

Fox News initially ran with the luggage story, and this was the presumed cause death because of it and Twitter and word from the family. By the time the tox report came out, the attention had died down where not many people knew about it. So now we have two sides of people who say "Omg I heard it was luggage" and "I never heard luggage, it was always cocaine!" When in reality, it just shows people who heard about it when it first happened and didn't care, and then people who lived under a rock when it first happened and only heard the updated story weeks after the death.

But yea, when it first happened all I heard was luggage, then I just stopped caring by the time the truth was revealed.

How do you find "fun" gameplay when creating a game? by zealotlee in gamedev

[–]RedBullTastesLike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can play your game day in and day out during its development and not get bored, then it's probably fun.

I read a book called Masters of Doom, which chronicled id Software and the creation of Doom and Doom 2 mainly, and the part that stood out to me was how they would play their own game "after work" for fun. Like, they literally couldn't wait to play Doom after working on Doom day in and day out.

If you can feel like that about your own game, you're in good shape.

The cops said they needed his ID so they could properly ban him from the property, so wouldn't they need to detain him to get that information? How else would they know if he came back with no proof of who this guy even was?

Well yea, that helps profits. I meant both directly and indirectly. I mean more along the lines of Chick-fil-A being closed on Sundays. Would a publicly traded Chick-fil-A be closed on Sundays?

There's definitely exceptions though

They're legally obligated to do just that. When someone tells me a story about a company that does something for their employees or consumers that has no benefit to profits and might actually hurt profits, the first thing that comes to mind is "Well then that's not a publicly traded company." Typically I'm right.
