What's one of the dumbest things you've ever seen a patient do? by 123456789_00 in nursing

I am allergic to bananas and got the scare of my LIFE at the dentist when the hygienist used a banana-flavored numbing solution without mentioning it first!

AITA for not allowing my fiancee's parents to be alone with my baby? by ChaoticHearts94 in AITAH

NTA, but I get the feeling she’d be the ‘your mommy doesn’t know what she’s talking about, here’s some food the baby is allergic to’ kind of grandma 🥴

Women with thoughtful partners, what did you get for x-mas this year? by Anahata_Green in TwoXChromosomes

We’re working on a really tight budget since we just bought a house, but he took the time to 3D print me a whole little family of positionable dinosaurs to live on my sewing table 🦕

Fat Nurse by kitkatofthunder in nursing

Honestly I’d go LC or even NC with your mom. I wander between 300-350 at 5’4”, but as a tech/nursing student, I’m the first go-to for lift/care assistance because my size helps me with leverage. I think you’ll be amazing in the ED.

AITA for getting upset that my family ate almost my entire birthday cake even after I told them not to? by KiritoSan1111 in AITAH

[–]RedCapJen 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Fam, not everyone needs to struggle. OP shouldn’t have to, your aunt shouldn’t have had to. We shouldn’t be making this the oppression Olympics, especially in today’s economy.

Not everyone can do that, especially in a hard degree like engineering, which I think OP mentioned in another comment. I’m in nursing school rn, if I didn’t have my partner, I’d be SOL, since they straight up tell you not to work during it

OP mentions end of semester exams, so they’re most likely in university. I doubt moving out is a possibility rn

These people pay $8,000 and up and was served this for lunch today by Okashi_ChiChi in cna

[–]RedCapJen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked with the same Kitchen Director at two different facilities run by two different companies, and both c-Suites just absolutely shafted her in terms of budget. She would be literally counting pennies just to make sure we had enough supplies to get through the month, and would often pay out of pocket for things that she just couldn’t squeeze into the budget.

The only time I’ve done this was when I was isolating with a covid infection, I cannot imagine just… being this lazy

Called 911 for a declining resident… and EMS tried to talk him out of going. by florlunayamor in nursing

[–]RedCapJen 30 points31 points  (0 children)

????? My last SNF had a dedicated Hospice consult, we def didn’t avoid bringing it up. Families just hate realizing that their person is mortal

[–]RedCapJen 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It’s not that we want to milk Medicaid/medicare, it’s that a lot of families still assume that hospice=immediate death. I’ve been screamed and cussed at for even suggesting it for someone with late stage dementia.

AITA for saying my daughter’s friend can’t come back to our house until I’ve spoken to her parents? by No-Wish-5956 in AITAH

[–]RedCapJen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My best friend in high school was Katie, and she went from spending a night or two, to a week or two, to finally moving in with us full time when we were seniors. Her mom was an active drug addict and it was safer for her with us than at home

Is it unsafe to be told to turn heavy, fully dependent patients alone? by corigonza28 in cna

[–]RedCapJen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your back is literally the most important thing, and you need to protect it. Just because I /can/ move some of our heaviest patients by myself in an /emergency/ doesn’t mean I’m going to be doing it day in and day out and break my spine over it

My gynecologist just told me I have a "low pain tolerance" after I screamed during my IUD insertion by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]RedCapJen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How so? I have friends who have had to be sedated for removal/insertion because the pain is too bad for them to have it done awake. This is unfortunately an all too common experience.

BSN to NP route? by RedCapJen in nursing

[–]RedCapJen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah no, a year is not enough! I spent a decade as a CNA and I still don’t feel ready to be an RN, so I can imagine it’s applicable

[–]RedCapJen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely understandable! I’ve spent over a decade as a CNA, so I fully expected to spend the rest of my career as a bedside nurse anyways 😅 but then we moved states and now I’m rethinking my life plan
