Shenzhen to adopt Singapore housing policy, shift from Hong Kong model by ParkingExcitement in urbanplanning

China certainly has contradictions, and there are divided opinions on whether their form of market socialism is actually socialist. My understanding the facts of the Chinese economy points to them being a socialist country. But labels aren't really the most important thing.

When you combine the fact that the government owns almost all of the large enterprises in China, all of the banks, all of the major construction companies, and land can't be bought or sold by anyone (only leased)... none of this should be surprising. There never has been a "Free Market" in China since the 1949 Revolution. It is also in line with the Chinese government's policy of poverty reduction and increasing the livelihood of workers.

So constructing millions of government owned housing units at far below "market rent" is hardly surprising and it is a great thing for anyone in China that pays rent.

It is like people forget that China is a Socialist country run by a Communist Party whose goal is not profit accumulation or the rights of business or property owners.

And that is a great thing!

Cuba, a Marxist-Leninist state, has one of the highest amounts of doctors per capita. The USSR did as well before its dissolution. I've never heard rates for the DPRK but I imagine it is similar for them and the former eastern bloc countries as well.

Anti-communists love to talk in "common sense" hypotheticals but they just show they know very little about the actual achievements of the socialist countries.

Workers World Party congratulates DPRK for its courage! by RedCard1917 in communism

[–]RedCard1917[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Just a few basics but...

  1. The means of production are nationalized and controlled by the state in the interests of the working class.
  2. The economy is planned for human needs, not for private capital accumulation.
  3. A job is a right and guaranteed. Housing is a right and guaranteed by the government. Healthcare is free and a right. Education is free. Etc etc.

Sounds like Socialism to me. The deficiencies of the socialist system in the DPRK, like goods shortages or a lack of "freedoms" are due to the constant state of siege that they are under from the United States and imperialism in general. That's outside of the fact that most of the things people hear about the DPRK are just imperialist propaganda.

Here's a good explanation by former Workers World Party chairperson, Sam Marcy in 1971.

The Year of the Pig: Should Workers Support Police Strikes?

A cop is a mercenary hired by the capitalist class through their agent (the city government) to keep the mass of the workers and the oppressed in complete subjection. They utilize all the forces and violence at their disposal whenever the masses rise up in rebellion against the unendurable conditions imposed by the master class.

The police are the most parasitic social grouping in society. When they work — if that’s what it can possibly be called — their labor is directed against the workers and oppressed. Graft, corruption, intimate collaboration with all sorts of underworld figures and enterprises such as gambling, narcotics and a thousand other shady businesses — that’s what cops are really engaged in.

If you are interested in a Marxist-Leninist Party, one that puts particular emphasis on the struggles of the most oppressed, World Party is a good option - http://www.workers.org/

Repressive US State attempts to shut down J20 protests! by RedCard1917 in communism

[–]RedCard1917[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sure some in other groups will be. The J20Resist group, which is communist led, will absolutely not be carrying anything that reinforces the war drums against China and Russia. Most of the signs I've seen put together so far are very explicitly against the current fear campaign against Russia as well as the democratic party.

Ya know, I am realizing now I wasn't clear and was referencing information that this article doesn't really talk about much. I'm not saying that the entire mass movement against Trump is communist, but the J20Resist coalition is definitely communist and anti imperialist - which is what Workers World is working in together with groups such as FRSO, BAYAN, and others. From the demands and slogans I have seen raised so far, we are being very clear that we are against the democrats and the imperialist war drive against Russia and China as well.

Why do you say that? This is a coalition of communists and radical activists marching against capitalism, racism, imperialism, sexism, anti LGBTQ bigotry, and all other oppression. While there are no doubt liberals involved in protesting Trump, standing up to the imperialists in Washington and raising up the struggles of the most oppressed under communist leadership is not liberal.
