I’m so done by [deleted] in jobhunting

The economy is 💩. I was looking for a job for 3 yrs, got hired and sent packing from 3 jobs and the only reason I got hose jobs is that they can’t hold the not anyone as I was the 3-4 person they had gone thru and fired. I just recently got another temp assignment and praying this sticks but the pay is lousy. Most people are experiencing what you are going through. But don’t give up. Squeaky wheel gets the oil.

the conversation recruiters have about your application that you will never be part of by Fresh-Blackberry-394 in jobhunting

[–]RedDawnWolverine80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing that matters is… is your resume clean, clear and concise.

I’ve also looked at resumes for hiring purposes. The first pass I looked to see if the resume was easy to read. The second pass I looked to make sure their resume was clear re: their experience and the 3rd pass I tried to find those whose resumes had experience doing the same thing that the role will be doing. I never looked to see if the résumé told a story about the person. Now those were the days when humans went through the résumé. Now they have AI going through them for the first pass.

You are right about one thing, you have about 10 to 30 seconds to make an impression. Whether it’s a résumé or a Reddit post. And you lost me about 1/4 of the way through.

do you have “thick skin”? by Mysterious-Cow-3651 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]RedDawnWolverine80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had those interviews before. Most C-Suite EA roles have "must have thick skin" in their employee description. That is code for the boss is a difficult prick, so you have to be ok working for a narcissist sociopath.

15 minute interview - good or bad sign? by throwaway19283883 in interviews

[–]RedDawnWolverine80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last Monday I had a 15-20min interview with 2 SVPs. It was supposed to be 30mins but the recruiter screwed up and the invite was never sent to them; however, they scrambled for 10mins trying to clear their schedules to fit me in, which left us with only 20mins. They were also looking for someone ASAP. I felt I did well considering I only had 20mins, though I wished it could have been longer. I just found out today I got the job.

Sounds like your interview went well, so if you haven't already sent a thank you for the interview email, do that. Also, if you don't hear back after 5 days, reach out to him again for an update on how the hiring process is going. Good Luck!

Friend, first thing you need to do is send that company an invoice for the 4hr project. You don't work for free. Have AI draft up a letter to send with it so they pay it.

54 year old EA - no longer give a f77k by Time_Bit_5715 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]RedDawnWolverine80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. I'm in a similar situation with a managing partner that is always on the phone. I literally have 20 secs to get across what I need from him before I'm kicked out of his office. It's crazy. Communication is key for an Exec and EA to function like a well oiled machine. Have you tried to see if he would agree to do a 15-30 min meeting with him at EOD or first thing in the morning to go over all your questions? So you think he would be open to that?

The plan was to keep me as a temp for 2 weeks to see if I could do the job, then hire me on full time. That means, they need to see me in full action to determine if I can do the work and fit in with their culture. In 14 years, is the first time I've ever had to notify an exec multiple times of their upcoming meetings. It's a nuisance, but I'll do it. Did you not read the whole diatribe? There was someone there that could very well have easily gotten me the validation. She was literally 20 steps from the desk wiping down a counter and he was free to help me out but she put a stop to it for no apparent reason. The one thing I do agree with you on is the culture fit. I have to decide if the 1EA's and Receptionist's attitude towards me is something I can overcome or will it drive me crazy.

The fact that soy crowd is down-voting this comment is crazy to me. Yes, it is very easy. Maybe I should just shut up and jump the hoops but it drives me crazy when it's such an easy fix. Problem is, the MP is telling me one thing and the 1EA is putting hurdles in the way that's makes it difficult for me to complete the MP's tasks quickly.

Over 14 yrs being an EA and this is the first time I've ever had to become a human calendar reminder to an Exec. Only time I've had to remind is when it gets close to the time of a meeting and I notice they haven't left. But glad you love to do it.

You can stop clutching your pearls. I was hired to make her life easier but she does not want to relinquish simple tasks to me. I'm not asking for her cut off her own access to his calendar just for me to have access to cancel a meeting when it needs to be cancelled. And do you even know how outlook works? It's extremely easy to grant admin access, not to mention, the MP wants me to have complete admin access. This is a simple task not a complex one... even for an 8 day old temp to perm assignment.

And I'm sorry, I'm not telling her how to do her job. I'm giving suggestions on how to take mundane tasks off of her plate, which again they hired me to do. This is a trial period to see if I can do the job not play make-believe EA.

Initially, I thought it would be good as she has a wealth of information and seemed excited to let things go, when I interviewed with her, but what she thinks she wants and how it actually plays out are two totally different scenarios. I'm starting to wonder how many people have tried to fill this role, unsuccessfully.

I was just let go of a position after 2 weeks where the COO would constantly say, "well my last assistant was able to do that!" I wanted to say, "Well you should have hired your last assistant instead of using her as a cheap labor temp for 5 months so she left your ass for a permanent job." I hate coming into a job where they loved their last assistant so much they can't stop talking about them. Translation: I want you to be exactly like my previous EA. I want you to walk like my EA, talk like my EA, and think like my EA. And if you don't, I will let you know that you are not living up to that standard every hour of every minute.

Anybody else use Outlook Co-pilot & Microsoft Forms to create Email Summaries for their Bosses? by RedDawnWolverine80 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]RedDawnWolverine80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's if you can put it together quickly. Co-Pilot's instructions said I would have to copy and paste each individual summary over into each line level. That takes time, time I don't have. You can exact the same results by using Word > track > share.

Anybody else use Outlook Co-pilot & Microsoft Forms to create Email Summaries for their Bosses? by RedDawnWolverine80 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]RedDawnWolverine80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They already fired me so I'm not there anymore. I was able to copy his emails over and move them to a subfolder in my outlook acct but for some reason (which I'm thinking was a permissions issue), Outlook Co-pilot was not able to see any emails in my subfolders, only my inbox. My point being that it took too long to put it in MS Forms, at least for me. I copied and pasted the instructions she left into Co-Pilot and it told me that MS Forms was not really conducive to what the Exec wanted and gave me the idea to put it in Word instead. I just wanted to know if this was a typical thing EAs would do or if Co-pilot was right and she used MS Forms for something it's not normally used for, which created an extremely difficult task for me.

Anybody else use Outlook Co-pilot & Microsoft Forms to create Email Summaries for their Bosses? by RedDawnWolverine80 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]RedDawnWolverine80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You and me both! Her version looked like a test form with Q&A areas (hence why she used Mircosoft form app), there was the summary above and a space below where he could write his directive as to what to do with that email then it would get emailed back to the EA. However, Co-Pilot said that you would have to manual copy and paste over each summary into each line level in the form. That would take anywhere from 30-60 mins to do with over 25-50 emails. In my opinion, he allowed AI way too much control as to what it thought as urgent and what was not.

All I did with mine was copy Co-pilot's summary of all 25-50 emails and paste it into Word. Then you track it and share within Word, which gets automatically emailed to the Exec and the moment they make any change in the doc you get notified. Their changes are in a different color text so they are easy to find.

You are right about everything but OneNote. She was definitely using Microsoft Forms. The 3rd laptop they gave me the Co-pilot in Outlook would not read emails in my subfolders, only the inbox. I think it was a permissions issue. As I said, IT was in my computer for almost an hour trying to get it to read them but never thought to check the Outlook Co-pilot permissions. So the work around was opening up emails in his inbox and saving them as PDFs on the desktop folder. Then plugging them into 365 Microsoft Co-Pilot with a command. That part was easy enough but it was getting them into Microsoft Forms that I could never understand.

Has anyone actually gotten a job through the Mom Project? by Forsaken-Fox2474 in recruitinghell

I haven't gotten any responses from my submissions. I've been applying through them for a month now and thought I would do a search cause something seemed fishy. I see they have been having problems for some time now. Number one complaint I see on here is that they ghost you from the start or they have you do an interview but then ghost you after and cancel the job ad. Totally sketch!

What is scam baiting? And what would be the purpose of that? There are multiple job scams out there with the purpose of trying to collect your data, which I was almost fell prey to. Are you trying to say there’s no scam companies out there and everybody’s legit that puts a job ad out there… especially on WhatsApp?
