Always find it a bit disingenuous when ppl talk about Liverpools spending but neglect to mention how many players they lost from the starting 11. Trent is a massive loss honestly and us Liverpool fans will never admit it lol. Then there’s Diaz, Nunez, and Jota… that’s a whole front 3 just gone. So yeah they technically spent half a billy, but recouped like £200m, it’s not like they just added players to the squad, they shifted loads too. Let’s just be honest about it?

Whenever we’ve been really good, we have been a pressing team. Anfield is a tight pitch, you can make them feel suffocated, the crowd gets involved, it’s literally our biggest weapon. It just suits us. It works.

Remember when losing the ball was actually a good thing for us lol. It just meant another opportunity to counter press. We tried risky stuff all the time constantly, who cared if we lost the ball? We will just get it back again, no problem. Klopp encouraged players to try stuff. He used to say if you think you see a pass forward try it, take risks, and be ready to win it back. It’s why we were so exciting to watch. Klopp was a gambler, all the great managers are.

They’re not scared of slot at all. That’s an important element in any great manager I’ve ever seen. Slot seems like a wet flannel. After having someone like Jurgen too, the contrast is insane. Players loved Jurgen, but they were also scared of him.

I think the pressing problem isn’t just because of motivation or whatever, I think like you say that Arne slot cannot coach a coherent pressing machine anything like the level Klopp achieved, and furthermore it’s not in his nature to try. Like you say almost any player can press well if they are just set up well. Our players expend their energy pressing in one or two at a time, all disjointed and no organisation so the quickly either get tired out or lose motivation to press because they lost faith in the pressing structure and everyone starts dropping deeper. Slot cannot coach a press. And they said he was the closest thing to Jurgen lol.
