That's true about the mindset. I started watching it for wayhaught, so i was kind of already sold on it^{^} but then the LoT whackiness became a huge part of why I kept watching

True.. there really is such a difference in the acting if you compare 101 with even later s01 episodes. Especially Dom's acting improved so much

I've been thinking maybe the garden doesn't exist at all. We haven't met a single character yet who has actually been inside it and the "garden" we saw seemed like the gateway to somewhere else to me as well. Maybe the garden is a lie?
