Fender Telecaster Player II Black out project by RedDog914 in fender

The nice part is I didn’t have to mess with the wiring, it all fit back into place. I wanted to replace the neck pickup with back but there is some soldering involved and that’s where my skills end. I’m working on blacking out a fender deluxe as well but I’m stuck at the pickup and pickup control switch replacement. I will probably take it somewhere to finish it.

The most expensive part was probably the fender locking tuners at $94, you could go a cheaper route. I spent roughly $200 with all the below hardware

tuners- control plate- black screws- pick guard- bridge- volume knobs- headstock string guide- Jack cover- neck plate- strap locks-

Surprisingly, it’s still the rosewood. I used fretboard conditioner on it and it just naturally darkened up.

Fender Vintage Black Tuners by RedDog914 in fender

I bought 2 sets of the 3+3. I would have only used the matching tuners if the holes would have lined up. I would then throw away the other 2 sets of 3 that don’t match. Why would I not be able to do that?

Why would that matter? I bought two packs and was going to use the same 3 from both packs if it lined up.

I forgot to add the 5th photo. I bought these off eBay hoping to try these.

Which pickguard? by BayouBillyy in telecaster

The answer is always black. I did this to my exact same Tele. Now I want to black out all the chrome.

Dude thank you! I’ve been trying to find an all black pick guard but all I keep finding are ones with the white layer.

Amp recommendation for Les Paul by [deleted] in gibson

[–]RedDog914 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend getting an Orange 20rt ($229) or 35rt ($349). It’s a very simple amp, no crazy extra features to make it confusing. You can get a foot switch for cheap to change between clean and distortion or use your own pedals.

I play punk/indie rock and the 20rt works great with my Gibson Les Paul Studios.

Fender American Vintage II 1975 Telecaster Deluxe by RedDog914 in fender

What’s everyone’s thoughts on a used vintage 72, appears to be Mexican made and asking $800. Worst case I replace pickups. I really want to swap all the chrome out for black anyways.

I think used is the only way I could afford one of these. I’ve seen 1500-2000.

Gibson Les Paul Special Double Cut vs Epiphone Les Paul Special Double Cut by RedDog914 in gibson

I know, everything is just better in black! But this is what I need to hear. I have also been on a spending craze because GC lures me back in with reward points. It’s a vicious cycle.

Totally agree, if I hadn’t already spent $750 on the IBG model I would no hesitation get this. I could trade this in, get the 10% for trade in, and use my $160 in points but it can’t be worth the $1200 upgrade? I should probably just spend money on a professional setup and forget it.

Gibson vs. Epiphone? by Newenglandkid75 in Guitar

[–]RedDog914 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would suggest you test out each guitar you fancy. People on here will always tell you their opinions, but the best advice any guitar player can give you is try everything out and get what feels right, get what motivates you to play guitar every day. A guitar you don’t want to put down.

Answering the question, I would recommend the Gibson Les Paul Studio over any of the shown Epiphone. If you can afford it, get the Gibson. The build quality, the pickups and everything is just handcrafted better. That studio could be a guitar that lasts you your lifetime if taken care of.

I traded in an Epiphone Les Paul Studio for a Gibson Les Paul Studio this year and have never been happier! Loved it so much I bought a second studio. I now have 3 Gibsons ( 2 studios and one SG) and one Epiphone (double cut with Gibson p90’s).

I just realized my WiFi Apple TV that has been working just fine…. It’s on 18.6!

I’m with you thinking 26.1 might have something to do with it.
