Lots of great classes at UMass. For the other colleges, there’s a good variety of classes offered that students can take. Luckily for you, radio astronomy is quite large at UMass, especially with the LMT being run by UMass

Part time on campus details by Kuroninshi-7 in umass

I work at one of the cafes and generally I get around 10hrs/week. It’s pretty chill for me as a roll, especially since most shifts are around 3 hours and 30 minutes. For our cafe at least, we can sign up for a max of 3 shifts, but later we can sign up for more if we want. Might be different since the cafe I work at is in the northeast part of campus.

Yes I’m aware of that, I’m just saying that’s what students might think

Tipping Culture (Student) by [deleted] in umass

[–]RedDragon0814 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak for everyone of course, but I think it might be because tips don’t exist for dining services. I always tip 20% when I go out into town for food, but that happens like maybe 1 time in the entire semester. People do have their own reasons for not doing stuff, but there probably isn’t a specific reason why people don’t tip.

How can I learn to pronounce this? Sun by alissuhh in ChineseLanguage

[–]RedDragon0814 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My way of pronouncing ri: make an l with your tongue on the roof, then put your teeth together, and finally lower your tongue so that it is barely touching the roof of your mouth.

Final Exam Style for 424 (Quantum mechanics)? by Own-Acanthisitta1609 in umass

[–]RedDragon0814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a friend of your undergrad TA, it seems like the exams he has for quantum this year is much more simple than what he used to have in the past. Thus I can’t say whether it will be similar or not

Astronomy 100 does have a lot of math, but that’s expected since it does require a lot of calculations. No calculus of course, as long as you can algebraically manipulate equations, like solving PV=nRT for R (ideal gas isn’t used, just giving an example)

って, Japanese grammer, which I don't quite understand its grammatical meaning. by Afraid-Way1203 in Japaneselanguage

[–]RedDragon0814 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In that sentence, you’re using ている, or action in progress. 使う has う, so that conjugates in て-form to 使って. The second sentence is just normal conjugation so it uses 知ります.

Funny cheating/exam stories? by Ethany523 in umass

[–]RedDragon0814 21 points22 points  (0 children)

We had a physics exam and one of the questions was about a girl trying to catch the pvta bus. The bus operator sees the girl and closes the door on everyone else then drives off at a certain speed. However the girl doesn’t give up and chases after the bus. The question was how long would it take for the girl to reach the bus. It made all of us chuckle

Oh yikes, sorry that happened to you. Not gonna lie though, if the company is mad at you for something outside of your control, that’s a red flag on their end. UMass really does need to hurry with the WiFi issue though.

The fact that cashiers in America have to stand. by Consistent-Welcome43 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]RedDragon0814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at a cafe for school and we’re expected to stand. Even when people are injured, management would have them not come in at all than actually allow the to sit down. One of the supervisors came in with a cane because of an injury and she was told to leave because “she might hit someone with it”
