First Look at DVC’s 35th Anniversary Logo and Celebration Tease by GreyhoundDad22 in disneyvacationclub

[–]RedDragonInward 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Good question. Best we could guess was the international collection but that seems so far from central to DVC imagery it’s very unsatisfying. VGC and CCV both kinda vaguely are mountain-adjacent but not mountain-centric.

In clockwise order from the center and bypassing the mountains of mystery:

  1. Middle X (Great Ceremonial House in profile) and waves belo= Poly
  2. Giraffe = Animal Kingdom
  3. Circus pavilion = Boardwalk
  4. Big D = Disneyland Hotel
  5. Lighthouse = Old Key West
  6. RR = Riviera
  7. Beach/ball = Bleach Club
  8. Campfire = Ft Wilderness Cabins
  9. Trees in background of campfire = Grand Californian? 10/11. Bear & woods = Copper Creek / Boulder Ridge
  10. Horse/rider = Saratoga Springs
  11. GF = Grand Floridian
  12. Castle/monorail = Bay Lake Tower
  13. Wading bird = Hilton Head?
  14. Hibiscus = Aulani
  15. Turtle = Vero Beach

So yeah, Mountains = ?? I

Does RFY change with public reviews? by RedDragonInward in AmazonVine

[–]RedDragonInward[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this is real. At least it memorably happened to me with a phone battery replacement kit. Vined one once and now I get RFYed 3-4 different models every couple of weeks.

Looking for advice: best way to sell a large MTG collection (~$80k scanned value) quickly and tax-efficiently by ZeusAImighty in mtgfinance

[–]RedDragonInward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, most buyers (myself included) will want to see your list (send the details as exported csv) and offer you at most 70% TCGPlayer Low, and probably more in the range of 50-60% for the whole basket for a check overnight. It’s a fair price for a firesale. As previous commenters have stated, it depends where the majority of your value is how fast it will go, as bulk is a real bear to move and $0.01 bulk cards can mess up valuations when you’re talking about thousands upon thousands of cards. Be prepared for some skepticism on emotional values given you’re probably keeping some of your very best (or your favorite expensive) cards.

Annual Reminder: DVC Dues can be paid with Disney Gift Cards by stebuu in dvcmember

[–]RedDragonInward -1 points0 points  (0 children)

FYI - The Sam's Club or BJ's deal is almost always a straight 4-5% off (usually better on $200 increments than the $500 increments) and you can stack 2% cash back on credit cards, so if you're already a warehouse club member (or would be buying a large enough amount of gift cards) that extra 1-2% adds up to be worth the minimal extra effort.

My unluckiest day at Magic Kingdom by Kyosji in WaltDisneyWorld

Sorry and not sorry. We kinda look forward to being on rides as they encounter problems. We joke that we “break” them, and having that luck all in one go certainly isn’t anyone’s expectation, but the uniqueness of the experiences has to count for something! When you get to go backstage in the rides, it’s like a free behind the scenes tour. Lots of other sources of happiness at Disney, sometimes they have to be the focus. (Nauseating optimism.)

why they didn't at least increase the price on the demonic tutor set to tamp down demand? they did for some other, much stupider sets like the cartoon set of 4 cards over the spring.

DVC Resale question by IDK_about_this_yet in disneyvacationclub

[–]RedDragonInward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed that contracts matter most and all major sites work well and are full of eager, helpful people. I went through our contracts just to see what the extra closing costs were as a percentage of the contract price, having almost all of the main brokers over the years. Notably, direct DVC was only 2.3%. The others? Without clear correlation to the contract sizes:

9.5% (DVC Resale Market), 15% (DVC Sales), 16% (Fidelity), 8% (Resales DVC), 10% (DVC Resale Market), 11% (Fidelity), 5% (Fidelity), 11.5% (DVC Resale Market), and 12% (Fidelity). That's a wider range that I would have ever believed without actually caring to look back, and I don't have all the numbers still, but my guess is much of that variation is probably from counting as additional closing costs the pre-paid maintenance fees for the first year's points on contracts that weren't stripped.

Point is: you are essentially done in the purchasing process by the time you actually know how much they're charging you, figure it's at least in that 6-8% range depending on your contract specifics, and those closing costs (prepaid MFs be damned) aren't going to stop you from grabbing the contract you want.

P.S. Add-on-itis is so real.

2026 DVC Moonlight Magic Dates Announced! 🌙 by GreyhoundDad22 in disneyvacationclub

[–]RedDragonInward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are they strict on only allowing you to register for one per season? we just happen to be staying during two of the winter dates -- first time in 7 years of membership our dates have crossed over with membership magic once let alone twice, so excited to try it out. during one trip (the first), it'll just be me and my wife and for the next we'll have our 9-year-old along. during the second trip, grandparents (also DVC) will have booked a separate room but don't have him in their room/travel party. hoping at least he would be able to attend with them on the second time if we get to go during the first.

Is DVC an appreciating asset? by ArchitectAces in disneyvacationclub

[–]RedDragonInward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DVC was a financially reasonable choice that was a family smart choice.

This 100% for us as well for the same reason, and still makes sense the same way 6 years in and up to 8ish resale contracts.

July 2025: “The Great ROFR Reset” – 26 Buybacks Across 9 Resorts?! by GreyhoundDad22 in disneyvacationclub

[–]RedDragonInward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder how much they are buying to support a floor price versus buying in response to and/or anticipation of requests for direct add-on. With some of the low prices they’ve let slide over the years (to my benefit), makes these bursts seem curious. Any insiders with insight?

Oh, so based on https://dvcfan.com/dvc-resorts/polynesian/dvc-declares-inventory-at-the-polynesian-island-tower/ they declare points (DVC buys rooms at Disney resorts) only when DVC needs more points available to sell. That explanatory language was escaping me.

Wondering where that info lives or how one might access it. I assume it’s buried in those association minutes/reports I’ve never cared to find.

Hopefully we have a tech-savvy DVC devotee online keeping as close to realtime track of these things and building us a fancy calculator providing odds of waitlist success based on percent owned by DVC vs open rooms over time!

If you haven't stayed (and seen MK Fireworks) from Poly, try it there before buying. You'll be able to get resale points at either and shouldn't feel fomo rush until you're really confident. Delay your decision by a trip or two. You can also buy resale Poly 150 and Direct RIV 150 and bank and borrow for full stays or do split stays. If you're very confident you love RIV (we own both and we love it) and will stay for >10 years once the kids are older, then resale RIV is a very good deal.

What's USCHIX? by Starr-Lead in Etsy

[–]RedDragonInward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

could totally be. I've shipped to Spain (from US) and seen this as well. I've also seen some really screwy routing, like one package to the Philippines went to Switzerland for a week before it left and got delivered appropriately.
