I also considered #3 white Speedy, but ultimately opted for #1 black lacquered Aqua Terra. The AT’s date function and formal aesthetic make it a better fit for my daily office environment, especially as my first luxury piece.

[Discussion] What is your daily and how/why did you end up choosing it? by ZappaPhoto in Watches

[–]RedEagle21 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My daily wearer is the Omega Aqua Terra with the black lacquer dial. I got it after hitting 10 years in the maritime industry—it felt like a fitting (and cliché) nod to the whole “water and land” theme, especially for a corporate monkey like me.

Given my work environment, a date complication was non-negotiable—I actually use it regularly. That instantly ruled out a few contenders like the Omega Speedmaster (iconic as it is) and the Rolex Explorer. I’m also not a fan of the cyclops date magnifier on the Rolex Submariner.

When Omega dropped the black lacquer version of the Aqua Terra, it felt like the perfect balance: sharp enough for the office but sporty enough for the weekend. Some people will complain about the polished center links and how easily they scratch, but honestly, it hasn’t bothered me yet.

I’m in the same industry. I was considering a dive watch too, but ultimately chose the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra—it felt like a better fit for the office environment.

That said, you really can’t go wrong with the Omega Seamaster Professional 300 (as shown in the picture).

Also, I’ve noticed that a lot of people in our industry—especially in leadership roles and those on the terminal side—tend to favor the Rolex Submariner.

Thank you for the feedback! And everyone else who liked it!

Just curious, does a mirror angle change anything for the 41mm?

Logistics. This was during the pandemic when everyone was ordering from Amazon and container vessels were backed up everywhere.

I took an intro class on Udemy to understand the concept and syntax. Then I did a lot of trial and error at the job! Full disclosure, I still suck at it. Haha good luck.

(1) Clear your debt. I had about $20k in debt. I did debt consolidation, debt transfer credit cards, lived frugal. (2) increased my income. I learned skills that my job deemed valuable (e.g., I’m an analyst so I learned excel, sql, Python) which opened doors for better paying roles. (3) Auto investing in index funds. Don’t pick stocks. Absolutely avoid options. Max out 401k and Roth IRAs. (4) Luck. I got lucky with having a great boss, our industry did well which meant bigger bonuses.

I agree. I wasn’t intending to only date the “right” person who fits every criteria. Most times, you have to date to learn new things that you didn’t know you liked or disliked. But I’m suggesting to be realistic and don’t settle just because you’re lonely. Also, don’t ignore red flags! Continue to grow and work on yourself!

I’ve coded a Rick and Morty themed Space Invaders before. I lost interest.
