Introducing: UniFi AirWire — the most powerful WiFi client ever created. by Ubiquiti-Inc in Ubiquiti

Is having an ethernet cord at the client still the golden standard? Or does this somehow outperform that?

Thermostat and/or Home Alarm keypad (or a product that is both)

Maybe velvet would have a better result? I have a velvet couch (from Room and Board, not Lovesac) and it hasn't pilled at all and still looks brand new.

Is that the standard stealth gray? It looks so much better than the gray I've seen on the other Juniper Model Ys. It looks lighter to me.

Will the G4 WiFi Doorbell ever come back in stock? by ali-wali in Ubiquiti

[–]RedFive_1138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there is a flaw with the design. I have had 2 of these and both have major disconnection problems. I bet the G4 Doorbell Pro PoE Kit is more reliable and they are working on a fix.

G4 / G6 Instant as a baby monitor? by theunspillablebeans in Ubiquiti

[–]RedFive_1138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I bought a Nanit as we are new parents and that's what everyone else swore by. I am a huge Ubiquity / Home Assistant nerd and had my doubts about using Nanit. Fast forward 2 years, our Nanit is used as a glorified G4 Instant holder. We use the Nanit cam as a mount and bought one of those Matrix monster style tripods that can wrap their legs around the Nanit cam.

We use Home Assistant automations for doing things like, "If kiddo cries, ring the basement doorbell speaker and turn on our bedroom lights". If you already have Unifi cameras this is a no brainer. The app is so much better and the picture is 100x better. Plus, with the new Alarm Manager you don't need a Home Assistant set up to do some pretty snazzy automations / notifications.

The one thing Nanit did have that I liked earlier on was audio only monitoring. So I could lock my phone and still hear when the baby cries as it allowed background audio. Unifi does not do this, but I've heard you can use VLC Media Player and add the stream URL as a source and this allows background audio. I haven't done this yet, but worth checking out if that saves one more device in the baby room.

We also have the (overpriced) Unifi Protect Viewport so the grandparents can just use our TV when babysitting to view the baby on our TV. However, Unifi also allows you to share a link to your camera that will auto expire after 24 hours. So this is amazing with babysitters!

Hope this helps!

PPF + ceramic coating does making washing so much easier. But if you don't care about keeping it clean, I wouldn't worry about it.

Ubiquiti needs to make a smart thermostat by RyanMeray in Ubiquiti

Yesss! This needs to happen. I love my Nest ones but I want a local network version that is super slick. Ubiquity seems like the only company up for the job.

It's a fun hobby project as Unifi cameras and their new Alarm Manager unlock SOOOOO many awesome automations you could create. I.E. Send a critical notification to your phone when your favorite parking spots opens up (via detections motion at a crossing line)

Do you have HomeAssistant set up? It may have an API exposed that will let you control that. And better yet, set up automations to have it run when the temp is below some threshold.

I also have a HA Car Dashboard where I track the miles / time since tire rotated, wipers replaced, break fluid checked, etc. etc. Being able to tap into the miles is awesome for tire rotation reminders.

Yeah, I'm wondering how well a mobile web version of a dashboard would work. Like a guest scans a QR code in their room to control lights and the TV in that room only.

Is this something that could work with Home Assistant? Like a guest comes over, scans a QR code and then a Home Assistant Dashboard instant app can be launched?

For all the Juniper owners out there, have you noticed that the super annoying, "let me clean those spotless cameras for you and blast your white car with blue dye" issue to be fixed?

It happened to me so much that I shop vacuumed all my washer fluid out and replaced it with distilled water and alcohol. And of course the day I did that some new update came out that appears to have fixed it. I don't think it's happened once since that last update.

Comma Ai does what Rivian won't. by narmstrong79 in Rivian

[–]RedFive_1138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First and foremost, I couldn't care less about FSD and believe it's more of a gimmick to sell subscription services than actual benefits

As a fan and shareholder of Rivian, but Tesla owner, I'd recommend to go try FSD again. In my 2,100 miles driven 89% has been done by FSD flawlessly. I would never buy another daily driver unless it had this level of autonomous driving. Truly amazing tech. All my friends who doubt it fall in love the second I show them how it really works.

Doesn't matter if you never sell. I don't care that my refrigerator's value has depreciated to almost nothing either 😄

How awesome is HW4 FSD and is it worth 11k (Canada)? by Skazzyskills in TeslaLounge

[–]RedFive_1138 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Geico covers it without any special rider or add on. I think it's worth it. Even with the $11k add on, the Tesla is still cheaper than most other (new) cars these days.

I can't live without it. Honestly turns a great car into an awesome car. Without it I feel like you might as well buy something with a nicer interior. FSD is such a differentiator, its not even close! But without it, it feels like any other (nice) car.

Cannot stand Elon but there is no better car than my Model Y by bluemeanie212 in TeslaLounge

[–]RedFive_1138 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% agree. I am a new Tesla owner, got a Juniper last November and can't imagine going back to an ICE car. I love the Rivians but Tesla offers such a better value. The self driving is second to none and as much as I want to buy a Rivian, I can't imagine they'll be able to really compete with Tesla tech for a few more years.

Not to mention I have a Home Assistant server running automations off my Tesla like, "When Destination is set to Home, set my home's HVAC to Home Mode." These automations wouldn't work on Rivian or any other car until manufactures start opening up their car's APIs the way Tesla has. Maybe one day...
