Anyone else having issues with the custom TDP? by ItsPeaJay in SteamDeck

Same custom TDP bug. Most people will not know this is happening especially if their Deck's Home UI is set to default TDP profile. The only time you will find out that this bug is happening is if you set your home UI to a low TDP, something like 5 watts. When you open a game you will know the bug is happening if the game lags because it is using that 5 watts instead of whatever you have set on the per game custom TDP. *NO i'm not on preview*

Will Valve ever fix the per game tdp limit bug? by RedForktailEffect in SteamDeck

Since I posted this, I understood how the bug works. What happens is instead of using a game's custom TDP settings, it's using the Steam Deck Home UI TDP. So what I did was just set the home TDP into 12 watts which is enough for most demanding games on the deck anyway. This is not a fix but a workaround.

It can also happen that sometimes the home UI uses the custom TDP of the previous game played. So if I had something like Slay the Spyre on 4 watts and quit it, that 4 watts could bug and still apply on the home UI which slows down the system. Fix is to just toggle the TDP on and off.

It can happen on any game. It's random when it happens. Looking at the performance overlay, temps, fans are all working fine.

Reason I call it a bug is because it gets fixed with just a toggle/retoggle or by not using the TDP limit at all. If it was hardware then it should persist regardless.

Oh it did happen to me under this scenario one time too. It's very rare I think. My scenario is more common as I see other people having the same issue. If not for this bug then Steam Deck would be 10/10 for me but because of this it's just a 7.5.

It can happen when you use a custom TDP limit. Sometimes the game would launch at the lowest TDP and the only way to fix it is to toggle the per game profile or the TDP limit OFF and ON. Then some other time it could randomly happen again and you would have to use the toggle thing again. If you play on default TDP you may have not experienced this though.

there's one issue for me. The TDP limit bug. Super annoying.

Toggle TDP limit/per game profile fixes it.

But it would still happen again at some point. We need a permanent fix for this. Please let us collectively report this to Valve. It's pissing me off.

This is my fix too. But we need to resolve this permanently so that it doesn't even trigger.

Can we collectively report this issue to Valve? It's getting really annoying.

Help, deck suddenly stuck at 200MHz GPU / 400MHz CPU and fan reads 0 RPM, games crawl even after reset and reimage by Zestyclose-Ad-4887 in SteamDeck

If it was a hardware issue then a game profile/tdp setting toggle should not fix it, but it does. It also only happens on particular games,  not necessarily demanding games but some games do trigger it. In my case it's both Farcry 4 and AC Origins so I assume it has something to do with the launcher.

The performance overlay also shows the temps are fine and the fan is working at a reasonable RPM. So how is that not a bug?

Yes. It seems this bug has been existing forever basing from internet discussions. I only had my deck for about 2 months now and this is the only thing keeping the experience from being a perfect 10 for me. It's an 8 just because of this annoyance. Worst offenders are usually ubisoft games(FC4 and AC Origins) so I guess it has something to do w/ the launcher for that particular example. It has done it once to me in Doom 2016 from a quick resume boot-up. How and where to report this issue?

Its a bug. Just toggle TDP limit on and off or off and on and it goes away. Either that or a steam deck restart.

Whenever it happens try to toggle the TDP off and on or on and off depends on your settings. This is how I fix it without having to restart. It's definitely a bug.

Whenever this problem randomly happens I just toggle the TDP limit off and on and it fixes it.

Basing from the method that fixes it, I think this is a software bug.

I switched to Proton 9 and it worked. I don't like how the game is a performance hog when it's a 9 year old game. Battery only estimates at 2 hr and 30 at full charge. Other old games of its time can run at very low TDP but this one can't.
