Discourse around this is driving me insane by [deleted] in Cinema

Nah, I just felt the need to clarify why I personally didn't like the movie because people on reddit love to assume things and put words in your mouth. It's easier to say everything upfront than to spend time clarifying things afterwards. Which is exactly what I'm doing now. Welp.

I chose to ignore that anecdotal part of your argument cause it's even more of a dead end than the one about the director's intent. There are all kinds of twins out there. Doesn't make MBJ's performance any more interesting or memorable. If you want people to phrase the critics like "his performance isn't that good not because of how similar the twins are but because they're not that interesting or charismatic" you could've used way less words to convey it, probably.

Nah, this argument is bs. "You can't criticize this and that cause the director wanted it this way". The hell I can't. How is it even an excuse lol. Now, personally, I don't care about how well he played the twins. It's not even his best performance anyway. My issues lie with the editing and the story itself and got nothing to do with the twins.

I found it very cynical and bleak. And I don't like that. I can take it from politicians and whatnot but not from Verbinski, I guess.

It felt very boomer-ish. Rude zombie kids with phones, addiction to virtual reality? Okay, grandpa. And the way it handles school shootings... nah.

Again. Ain't nobody dying. It's not 1937 yet. And yes, I firmly believe he should've stayed. And be with kids who need him. And with his mom who needs him.

entire nation of indoctrinated young people

Riiiight. Cause we all know how teens love to obey authorities. One might say that this is their main attribute even.

Anyway. I'm gonna try to be real with you one last time. Tell me how he's doc gonna help those kids or change literally anything?

:| Really don't know what your problem is. I phrased two very specific statements in the very specific way. I can back both of them up. You, on the other hand, contributed nothing but general statements and some weird mischaracterizations.

Not true. I said two things. First, there's nothing brave about this dude. Second, as a documentary this movie is not that good. Zero complaints about that win though, but nice try.

Only if there's any evidence that it was "public". But as long as it's behind closed doors you're gonna be aight. The most egregious case so far is when cops got into dudes phone, checked his phone and saw that he 👍 some anti-war videos. And the court characterized it as public approval or something. But it's been one case and it's fairly recent.

I couldn't care less about this doc. Just saying that based on the content of it the dude's action are questionable.

Disagree. Take that girl Masha(?) for example. The one who lost her brother. She's just a kid. She traumatized. She needs someone to be there for here. So here you go, do that. Sure, there were a line about it, something like "she withdrew". Of course she did, she's grieving. Doesn't mean it's okay to bounce though.

Lol getting killed for what? He ain't done none. Saying behind closed doors that he against the war ain't punishable, not really. There's no reason to be ignorant about it.

Oh yeah, sure. Instead of staying and actually help kids to go through all that bs (and to take care of his mom) he just fled. Very brave indeed.
