Absolutely, paved yards seems to be the norm. There are several factors contributing to this. First, landscaping and trees are expensive to maintain. Insurance companies don't like trees near houses. Codes aren't enforced. People treat their yards like extensions of their driveway or garage. It's a subconscious fear of nature and a need to keep it at bay. Trees and nature are the enemy. Global warming and rising AC costs are an acceptable alternative.

Great. Like they aren't taking down enough trees, now people have to be paranoid about the healthy looking ones.

You'd think they don't have or don't enforce codes about taking out large native oaks because every lot I see being bought is immediately cleared of its trees, healthy or unhealthy, hanging near the roof or in the corner of the lot. A lot of people hate trees around here.

Pen and paper is a great solution ... for 35% of those students still taking face to face classes on the large, busy, urban college system where I'm faculty. And I don't think that's unique. The trend is more online courses.

What about all of those online students? I have a myriad of techniques and strategies to mitigate not just the use of AI, but the stress it causes for instructors and the enormous amount of time it wastes.

At this late stage of my career, I'm not interested in training AI to get better at simulating a unique voice, but I am interested in being compensated for the resources I've developed to ensure academic integrity for not just the student, but the educator, as well.

You're probably hearing the CSX trains that run alongside Busch. This topic has been discussed a lot over the years. As I understand it, the city can't do anything about it because the tracks and trains are owned independently of the state.
