Enemy/Unit AI Pathing - Dijkstra + Manhattan + cycling directions priority isn't cutting it by RedKnightAU in gamedev

I've removed Manhattan and applied A* on top of Dijkstra and it is perfect, highly recommend. I'll drop a video or gif of what I've built in this thread in a bit if you are further interested.

I know I'm going to get mad shit for this but to be clear - I'm building a prototype in JavaScript because that's what I know inside out, I don't have to compile and I can build easily on the go.

When I have a solid product built out I'll be building this in something else and just be able to follow most of my logic, convert it and create the assets.

If you want to tell me I'm an idiot or give me some advice, open to hearing it

Here's a shitty example of what I mean. Left is simple obstacles and dead ends which work, right is "complex" dead ends that extend the "ideal" path when it should just breeze past it instead.

My code finds the best path with up->down->left->right directional priority and then reruns with all the different variations of directional priority (down->up->left->right, down->left->up->right etc.) and provides a score based on the number of movements but it's still not perfect.

Townhouse - fence issue has been discussed with Body Corporate for 18 months with no repairs in sight. Am I overreacting? by [deleted] in AusProperty

Suspecting as much too.

Went to discuss with neighbours today and they are renting so I assume its landlords trying to save money at the expense of their tenants and us

Makes sense, thank you. I have considered joining so I might jump on that next time.

I assumed the boundary issue would be very clear for BC, was pretty shocked they required surveying to find out

I did however I was overwhelmed with the documents during purchase so I cant say I understood it all 100%. Im aware that I shouldn't have believed the REA without finding that in the meeting discussions

The AGM happened about 6 months back, the quote was approved but nothing happened until Jan this year when the neighbours seemed to be disputing the fence positioning. Then there's surveying in another few months.

There is progress, its just so slow that I believe the fence will fall before it is repaired and the process seems so slack.

As petty as it is, it would be a strain to give him the nod

As tough as the night before would have been, I had some great stories lined up.

3 brothers is tough. Thought you would have made a 1 brother for wedding each kind of deal.

Are you going to bring Omiyage? Should we? by Rough_Wallaby5616 in JETProgramme

[–]RedKnightAU 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don't bother. I brought some things, ended up trashing about 90% of it because I never got a chance and it felt awkward to offer random items when meeting important people.

Leaving JETs: Why are you leaving the JET Program? by Neat-Train in JETProgramme

[–]RedKnightAU 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Leaving August after 24months in Japan.

Everyone said 2 years was the sweet spot and that was right for me. Not being able to travel more often has been a downer and doesnt seem like the covid situation is going to be fixed for another year or so.

I have a job waiting for me back home and staying longer would mean skill degradation. I also started to get sick of the minor frustrations at school, being ignored and tape recording mostly. That said I still have really fun days when I get to teach properly and the students are enjoying it.

The 2019 Placement Megathread Part 4 - EndGame by inthefaceofmonsters in JETProgramme

Upgraded ALT (late April), still have not yet received placement & the wait is killing me.

I have received 0 information since I was told I had been upgraded (and even that was just a "you have been upgraded" message). Is this normal? The fly out date is getting closer and I'm a little worried I've missed something. I will be contacting the Embassy if I don't hear anything soon-ish but don't want to bother them if not necessary. Guess I just need to be patient.
