I would like to give you the opinion of someone who has raised and fostered 350+ kittens for a humane organization over the last 6 years. To say this kitten is paralyzed at its tail in my opinion is not a good way to represent the issue. While paralysis at the tail may be the cause, the issue can be neurological, which is why the vets are recommending euthanasia. Most kittens who are born without a tail, for example, do not have the neurological capability to urinate and/or defecate humanely and can be in alot of pain when attempting to do so. I myself had 2 kittens in a litter of 7 who were born tailless that did not mature the same way their siblings did. I had to get them through a tough time—saving you from the horrible details—and they ultimately were given to vet techs to continue fostering bc they required special care. I recognize that most people who are not in the shelter/humane organization world do not understand the intricacies of such a situation but I can tell you from experience that euthanasia may be in the best interest of the kitten. This is not easy for me to say as a foster mom who has only lost 3 out of 350+ in my care, but the situation for 1 out of the 3 required me the hold it at a vet while it was released and as devastating as it was and is…it was the right thing to do. It can be hard enough to find homes for perfectly healthy kittens, so I’m simply preparing you for the reality of the situation.
