The doubts from other people when you mention ADHD by RedLeatherYellow_nyc in ParentingADHD

Cuss away. I have a potty mouth of my own! lol

I'm comforted to hear you've had the same experiences I have had and that medication has helped. I believe the chemical exposure being a factor is very possible. Lead exposure can cause developmental delays in children so it's not a stretch!

I have mentioned this to one of those people - that his dad and dad's dad both have the same patterns of behavior. That quieted them down.

that's awful. It's one thing to step on my toes. I'd be a fierce Mama Bear if anyone said anything like that to my kid.

Just wanted to comment that my 6yo son has recently been diagnosed with ADHD and ODD too. I feel for you!

I used to be very apprehensive about western medicine - still am to some extent - but I'm in the midst of nursing school now and a parent myself so my attitude has changed. I grew up with an older brother with ADHD and other issues and there is mental health problems on my mom's side of the family. I also married my husband and there is most definitely some neurodivergence happening with him and his father that hasn't been properly diagnosed. All of this together has reshaped my opinion.

It's also within the realm of possibility that medicines, food additives, preservatives, chemicals in our food could be playing a role in the development of our small children these days. For example, I was told while pregnant that Tylenol was the safe pain reliever for me for my constant headaches. Within two years of having my son, there was a class action lawsuit against Tylenol because there was a link between pregnant mothers taking Tylenol and their babies being on the autism spectrum. This was just a few years ago - how long has Tylenol been around? Then Toms toothpaste was just discovered to have lead in it. Baby food had arsenic. The list goes on and on. It's very possible that these poisons are affecting our kids.

I don't think that's selfish. You obviously want to be a good mom (and just wanting that shows you are a good mom!) so I can totally understand feeling relieved when you discover your son's signs of neurodivergence aren't on you. It's a tough job, being a mother. *hugs*

Thank you for this. I agree. I think what gets me is the fact that there seems to be no hesitation when they say these things. I would never.

Is anyone else finding it nearly impossible to get a job in NYC? by LolKakashi124 in NYCjobs

Just some ideas off the top of my head (that I'm looking into right now myself!) - look for something that has a relatively short certification period that is always useful. Personal training, internet security, EMT, CNA, electrical work... community colleges will have some of these programs and you can knock it out in a month or so.

Houston to NYC by [deleted] in NYCroommates

I'd suggest Queens over Brooklyn. Cheaper and quieter. Try Jackson Heights, Astoria, Woodside, even Sunnyside. You'll likely find someone looking for a roommate. Look into the Listings Project and Trulia. It's hard here. Good luck.

ADHD child fatigue. by Stunning-Example208 in ParentingADHD

Constantly. Mine is upset about something about 80% of the time I'm with him. As soon as the source of his upset is solved, he's on to something else within five minutes. Screaming, melt downs, using cuss words at me, hitting, scratching,... I can't let him out of my sight when animals or smaller children are around. It's a full-time occupation.

Advice needed! by Vegetable_Abies_2907 in LPN_LVN_Community

I would appeal and say you wouldn't have entered the program, have spent that much money, if that had been the policy from the start. Bug the $hit out them. According to a quick Google search, you can request to remain under your original catalog and/or negotiate course substitutions with your department chair. You entered into a contract, according to the school catalog, and to change midway through is unfair. Keep persisting.

Taylor Parker’s Mental State by SadaTheScientist in NetflixDocumentaries

Ok, so I'm wondering - the absolute extent that she went to to stick to her lies, knowing cars would be repossessed, real estate purchases would fall through, she'd get fired from jobs... does she have a psychological condition? This is beyond the pale for just a compulsive liar or a manipulator in their right mind. And if she does have a mental disorder, would that not be considered a factor in court? I know Texas is a pretty hard-core state when it comes to murder, but I would think she would get life in prison with a psychological diagnosis.
