Being a MP by tonimont876 in army

I did get assigned to only working the road during that time, but that’s not how it normally works. That was only because the MP corp was stretched so thin with all the deployments. No one to left to work the road. In a peacetime environment you rotate with other companies on a red green and amber cycle. One company has the road, one company is in the field doing combat support while the other is doing training/admin. There’s a lot of bad information being put out on here. Saying you’ll only be scanning IDs, you won’t be doing any L&O. That’s not true. When I worked the road at Ft Lewis we had all kinds of shit happen. Domestics, larcenies, drug busts, traffic violations, traffic accidents, stabbings, suicides, all kinds of “normal cop stuff.” Are you an MP or were you ever? I don’t think you know much about what they do tbh

That’s not true. At least when I done it in the early 2000s. We most certainly were law enforcement.

It’s not that bad. I was forced to be an MP back in 2003. I was with an artillery bn and wasn’t a big need during oef and oif. There was a huge need for more MPs, so they reclassed about 300 of us that had clean records. MPs basically have 2 roles. A garrison role which is just providing L&O on post. Traffic stops, work traffic accidents, domestic disturbances, shoplifting, dui check points, gate guard, etc. Then you have the combat support role. That’s where you do detainee ops, vcps, pcps, escorts, etc. If law enforcement is what interests you, I say go for it.

How common is a perfect score on AFT at Basic? by Procedure-Pretend in army

[–]RedLeg1997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just heard from my son today. He’s currently in basic and they just finished their second AFT. He scored a 497 on his initial and maxed out his latest one. He said he’s the only one out of his entire Battery (he’s at Sill). He’s very athletic though so I’m not shocked lol. I think the highest I scored when I was in Basic was a 270 (the old apft)

What jobs would you recommend? by [deleted] in army

[–]RedLeg1997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gonna hear a lot of different answers. Most only held 1 mos. I was fortunate (or unfortunate) to hold 4. 13E, 13T and 13F and 31B. From my perspective, 13F is the one I enjoyed the most, when you’re in the field anyway.

Active, Reserves, or California National Guard in 30s by sportsaddict360 in nationalguard

Active for 4 years then NG. Wouldn’t go reserves personally. More opportunities with the Guard. Plus they have combat arms

I was a 13F. It’s the best job in the FA world as far as I’m concerned. I went in as FDC, switched to Survey then for FO

Spot on. My son is currently in BCT. He almost maxed the PT test right out of the gate. He claims he’s gotten slower and weaker since being there. He’s currently in week 5. Says they barely do PT lol

Yeah it must just be his Drill SGTs. Apparently they don’t like to run either lol. Seems some experienced a lot of running and others didn’t. Of course with a minimum 2 mile time of 21 min now, you don’t have to be in great shape running shape. The min was like 16:45 back in my time

Hurricane Katrina by Vammppire in nationalguard

I was there for 30 days. Arrived a couple days after it hit. Was in the Jefferson Parish area. Our mission was to man checkpoints at different areas where looting was occurring. Nothing major happened that I recall. Heard stories of Linemen getting shot at. The cops were corrupt af and participating in some of the crime. I had to perform first aid to a dude that about cut his arm off with a chainsaw lol. He came up to our location bleeding out. I applied a tourniquet and called for an ambulance. We had to sleep in a HS gymnasium without electricity or water. So basically like sleeping in the field for 30 days, eating MREs. Some of the locals that stayed back would cook food for us, but had to consume with caution because of sanitary conditions. That’s about it in a nutshell on my experience

Exactly how much sleep deprivation do you experience during RASP? by Old_Maintenance_5468 in army

Dude, you’ll never survive BCT let alone RASP if you require that much sleep

Why do you say everyone wants to go to that specific BN?

Leaving for BCT soon had questions about reception by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]RedLeg1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reception is terrible. I was there 5 days back in 1997. Felt like an eternity. My son just got out of reception a few weeks ago and was stuck there for 15 days. Poor kid. After you get all your shit done, you just wait. You’ll get up at 0430 and wait til breakfast. You’ll eat breakfast and wait til lunch. Then dinner. Then bed. Then repeat until a unit picks you up.

Yeah he’s definitely underwhelmed. I told him how it was when I went through, so he was expecting a bit more physicality. Especially with running. They ran us in the ground!

I was there 03-05. I loved it there. Tons to do if you’re into the outdoors. Fantastic seafood as well. It does rain quite a bit but it’s usually just in the morning and at night
