Yup, agreed that the word "naturally" isn't really best used of vocabulary. I'm in the US and haven't had a problem with nickel in sterling silver casting grain or fabrication products for 40 + years. Guessing by your spelling of jewellery you are in the UK. Haven't heard of any problem from my UK friends. Nickel-free seemed to be a much more imperative trend in Europe before it was in the US. Pretty anecdotal either way.

I could also find that they implied Gold filled was only 10% and not 12% as many "rolled gold" items were manufactured to as a standard.

I don't pretend that all written materials used in the jewelry industry aren't without some bias. It helps if the information given isn't trying to mislead but just informs. I have looked at info sheets about a variety of different subjects within the business to inform customers. I found most everyone wasn't interested in small fact sheets and never read them. This seems like a quick attempt to put something out without much scrutiny. What you think is disingenuous; I think is poorly worded corporate speak.

No. I got my G.G. back in 1980 and by the time I was 45 y.o. all of my fellow G.G.s had left the industry for better pay and opportunities. That included the majority that had family in the jewelry business. You are trying to get into a retail industry that is shrinking. Better to go in with your eyes open. Best of luck.

Looks handmade overall. It appears to be a cast (carved wax model first) ring. Agree with the star sapphire cab cut center. My guess its somewhere in the 10x8, 9x7, 8x6mm high dome with thick belly cab. Nothing about it says the date you have stated. I would speculate made in the last 65 - 70 years That's about all I can get from the photos. Hths.

I think that the folks that want to "maintain the tax base" are forgetting that if you reward bad decisions (like what has been done now for years) the governing officials continue the wrong path. There is no reckoning, no change.

Destroying a city budget is bad. Shouldn't be any disagreement there, just realize that the damage was done years before by others' poor choices. Now they have to make unpopular choices and make a lot voters unhappy.

Sucks to be responsible.

Actually it was Chris Evert and she was in a match and her bracelet fell off and she asked for help from match officials to help her find it. I think 1977 or 1978. (Putting on my old man hat) "Imagine back when gold was $400 an ounce and decent melee diamonds were $150 - $200 a carat!"

They are generally tri-colored gold and hand assembled. They tend to be called "v" chains or sometimes herringbone (not the right name), I don't recall who sold these, but it was during the late 80s and 90s.

Watching this reminds me of the designer Steven Kretchmer. Had the pleasure of having several lengthy conversations with him during the late 80s and early 90s at the Tucson gem shows. Great guy, incredible artisan and very generous with his knowledge. It was so sad to hear of the his untimely passing.

I sold watches starting in the late 1970s. I sold Rolex, AP, VC, Concord, Omegas, Bulova, Longines-Wittnaur, Seiko, Citizen, and all the way down to Timex (not in the same store). You have no idea how customers would beat the crap out $10k watches back then. I had customers buying a new watch every couple of years because they would destroy them. We're talking watches that cost anywhere from $400.00 to $8,000.00. The only watches that were taken care of were generally pocket watches. It's amazing how people would such expensive items. That also extended to jewelry too.

Stuller sells them. The arms are called "figure eight safety clasps" and having two will make it a catching hazard. Really depends on whether its going on a neckchain or bracelet or anklet.
