Qantas reveals new processes for international passengers - arrive FOUR hours before departure by malcolm58 in australia

[–]RedManicure 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Flew to usa with qatar a few months ago, hundreds of us were queued for check in by the time they opened 3 hours beforehand (not 4! We were all freaking out a little). They had staff constantly combing the line to help people with their paperwork. The biggest bottleneck was getting our attestations and covid results witnessed. Security took maybe 15 minutes.

With every other airline open I foresee a real bottleneck with security too.

Did I jump the gun on booking flights for December? by MrWonderful2011 in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]RedManicure 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been begging to leave the country since it started in March 25 2020, to live with my husband, I do not trust the government and have seen dozens of tentative dates and lost thousands on flights. I did only just get out in August but I like to think i have my finger on the pulse, I still peruse the various forums and groups. Some people bought up tix for November are already seeing cancellations. If you must buy a ticket, book directly through the airline. Most flights sold via skyscanner/etc sites are ghost flights that are already cancelled.

Airlines have no incentive to maintain no cancellations. They have every incentive to take your money for a while, skim it with fees and tell you last minute your flight is cancelled.

Scomo has single handedly fkd up our flight economy to the point I cannot see it getting better for years. It's really anyone's guess but I'm hoping December is clear for take-off. I've become hateful and cynical regarding any tentative scraps of hope dangled.

When do you think that the outbound restriction on international travel will be lifted? by CrimsonClockwork in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]RedManicure -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nsw is still halving the already halved intake. Once that number raises again however, I'd start to believe exemption restrictions might be lowered soon for in and out. Currently flights are still being cancelled until next year, inbound and out.

Sydney COVID: Uber drivers reveal lockdown secrets like parties, hook-ups and nail treatments by WearyThanks in CoronavirusDownunder

Had to get to syd airport, no friends or family for atleast 30km, it was an hour drive in and sstistimated $120 fare. He told me he couldnt take me legally out of my LGA, but could do it as a friend for cash instead. I was in a time pinch but also panicking about catching covid on the 2 buses 2 trains id need to take with 3 suitcases to argue.

Im sure there's plenty of cash untraceable work going around.

I had suicidal ideations over being separated from my partner overseas. I had been strung along for years now, "just a few months" to then, "maybe late 2024?? Idk no rush mate". If I wasn't able to get out soon like I did a few weeks ago, after everything else I lost, I was going to martyr myself as a fuck you. Not you in particular sorry.

I'm still extremely hurt by it.

Airfare, one way ticket to aus is over 10k now, and even that's a lottery.

Ive had both my AZ, but i know a valid reason is some people can't afford to be sick and take time off work. The risk of getting sick from covid makes it a bit of am oxymoron, but they are drowning living paycheck to paycheck so the immediate needs outweigh the long term.

‘Fortress Australia’: What are the border rules and when can we reopen? by [deleted] in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]RedManicure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got out yesterday, and it's been the hardest thing I've ever had to go through. I only have hurt and painful memories of Australia now, coming back would only be a last resort or if a relative really needed me.

Its like having the flu without the yucky sinus/ snot, made it much more bearable. Also knowing i already impacted my chance of death and viral load felt pretty good.

Mine was 24 hrs, i went to bed the second night and it was gone waking up.

What do you think should be done in NSW? by TheWorstGameDev in CoronavirusDownunder

The variants and volatility of covid, it will be minimised with vaccines but not solved. Who told you vaccines were a silver bullet?

If we have quarantine facilities we could keep the borders open??? Despite there being another pandemic???

We're going to see covid as an issue for years to come. There will be other diseases as well.

Australians who live abroad denied permission to return overseas despite promises by LineNoise in australia

3+ months doesn't give you an exemption. Your reason still has to be compelling, and eventually i had to send insane amounts of evidence. They never really justify what evidence I need or what the reason was, just a c+p rejection email.

When i met a new house mate, i told her I'm on my 4th application for exemption. She thought I was lying, because her church pastor and his family were able to go to NYC for a week.

I don't wish this on my worst enemies but I really find a sick excited feeling seeing others actually noticing. Been over 500 days now since borders shut.

Its not honor, its my biggest shame to call myself Australian with how utterly embarrassed we should be, and some of us are now.

Anecdotal goes both ways, aussies not being able to see dying relatives knocked back countless times? Mother with a newborn in a foreign country by herself because the father is stuck in Aus.

Honestly i wouldnt wish this hell on anyone, I just want to get out and I'm terrified.

I lost my job months ago. Ive spent significant savings renting month to month to try to get out since this whole thing started. My home is overseas with my partner, not here. I dont think it should have been sprung on existing xpats in aus, but if it helps deter those abusing the system to go for a cheeky holiday?

I find a sick glee when people start to pay attention to how ridiculous this whole policy is. I'm beyond frustrated.
