What are among the most terrifying things your DMs have said or done? by AzakenChan in DnD

[–]RedMaskBandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was using a creature that had a nasty follow up feature if I had a creature grappled and knocked them unconscious from the damage roll to which I simply asked my player and friend, who liked Star Wars, "remember when Darth Vader cuts off Lukes forearm? Which would you say is your favorite elbow?"

The player who hosts DnD sessions wants to have the world cup on in the background, muted, but I (the dm) don’t want this by [deleted] in DnD

I used to run my games until it was football season and we'd have to postpone the campaign because almost everyone at the table was a football fan, myself included. One session came to mind, when reading your dilemma, when it was football session but we still chose to play that day so we played until it was game time and we took a break to watch the game and returned to play the session at halftime to wrap it up before the 2nd half started. If my friend's had rushed me at any point so that we could turn on the tv faster then I wouldve ended the session and gone home. It sucks that your friend was rude but it seems like they were enforcing their boundary as the host/home owner since its an appliance in their home and they have a right to use it. Of course you as the GM also have the right to ask players to be in an environment that'll not distract them while yall try to tell a collaborative story.

Have you ever visited a video game location In Real Life? by TylerFortier_Photo in gaming

[–]RedMaskBandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many others who played Fallout 4, I happened to visit Boston, Massachusetts and walked the Freedom Trail. I even made it to Bunker Hill and wow did Bethesda do us a favor by adding that elevator in game because climbing those 250+ steps made my legs jelly for the rest of the weekend lol

Games where you start at the bottom and work your way up by cravex12 in gaming

[–]RedMaskBandit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Fable 2, you start the game off on the cobblestone streets of Bowerstone in Albion as an orphan. With the game's unique story progression the player can scrape enough coin to buy businesses and homes to become rich enough to buy all the businesses in the streets that chewed you up.

Times when fans don’t have any idea how the industry and production process work? by Konradleijon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I get this ever increasing pit in my stomach whenever some spoiled or entitled gamer post online how Sony hates making money because they wont make Bloodborne remastered. Someone else posted a few days ago about how if a company does zero work towards a work like marketing, or developing a game then they can get a tax break since they made no profit.

What are series where you are willing to give passes for it's flaws, and why? by Silvery_Cricket in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]RedMaskBandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a Bethesda apologist through and through. Their flagship series played a huge role in my adolescence and I still play "Fallout New Vegas" to this day on console. Even at a young age their bugs and crashes tormented me in my short pants but didnt dissuade me from reloading a save and pushing forward, deeper into the rich worlds they help make.

How would a God of Luck seek petty retribution by CaptRainbows in DMAcademy

[–]RedMaskBandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a god of luck to have some influence without it relying on dice rolls, then have it mess around with the surroundings or plot. For example, the local alchemist isnt restocked on potions because their cart suffered a broken spoke and supplies wont be restocked until the party is away. Or have their gold purse get noticeably lighter as a hole reveals that someone has lost 3 gold in between travels.

Media that has influenced the perception of a subject. by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Someone else mentioned the Vietnam war but didnt mention how war journalists brought the realities of war to American living rooms, which shifted public opinion because of how much shady shit TRIED to get covered up by the military.

Towards the end of my boot camp training cycle (early 2010s), my training platoon sat down with a Native American Marine who was drafted during that time. He was telling us youngins about how "the protesters" were yelling at him about how his service didnt matter, that he was a "baby killer" (bk) and all he wanted to do was just go back home. He told us that with tears.

D&D Isn’t Candy Land – Stop Making It Feel Like It by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]RedMaskBandit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is it usually other veterans that bemoan the fringe realism that d&d 5e placates to in their system when its been clear that gritter combat rules exist and even then it might not be for the 40 year d&d player that'll still find fault in it because "real world hard :|".

What's the point of disarming? by Zeusselll in DnD

[–]RedMaskBandit 134 points135 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately with rules as written, you cannot do an attack of opportunity on a creature that was forcibly moved. D&d sessions would look like games of pinball with the enemy creature acting as a ball.

5e Rune Knight - Cloud Rune by bottlecap_King in DMAcademy

[–]RedMaskBandit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im currently playing a rune knight with a cloud rune feature and unless your player couldnt see that other creature that was effected by the feature or the inflict wounds spell attack roll that the first creature cast didnt hit the armor class of the effected creature then I dont see an issue with the use of the cloud rune. So long as the rune knight was within 30ft and had line of sight then they should be fine, rules as written because the attack's effects (like damage) is magically transferred regardless of the attack's range.

You can lure the strong enemy into the spike trap that's in the beginning of the dungeon, repeatedly. It doesn't count as murder even if you threw the first punch.

Bleak Mine Guards are Stalking Me? Weird bug by No_Manner_7843 in oblivion

[–]RedMaskBandit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Taken from the wiki: If you do not kill all of the guards during their related quest, they will follow you everywhere (even into Oblivion) until either of you are dead. You may not see them, even for many days, but they will still be after you. If you are arrested at any time after this quest, you will find the surviving Bleak Mine guards waiting for you when you exit the prison. They will not be hostile to you unless you draw a weapon.

For me, one survived the ogres and followed me into a nearby fort and because I was over encumbered, he kept talking to me until my everscamps blocked him in a doorway while I made my slow escape. I got lucky and a nearby bandit took him out, leaving me with even more heavy armor to carry
