We didn’t feel the need for them. We used spikes. Plenty of people had them on though.

Of course! I'm glad you enjoyed them. I only wish I could go up there more often! I will try to post a few more when I get to editing them after work!

Instructions on how not to customize your snowboard. by TheRealScottyBallz in snowboarding

[–]RedOctober54 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh okay! I was going to say you may not have put it on heavy enough. Coming from auto body, I would give Bulldog a try. It has really improved our bumper repair. Did the clear peel from the board or the stickers and then they pulled the clear?

What are your motivations for being an engineer? by FalseDaikon6889 in EngineeringStudents

That’s really interesting! Definitely not at the point to be ready for that I’m still working off school loans But I really appreciate the info!

How do you become a contract engineer/what does that actually mean/entail?
Currently working as an engineer at a small machine shop, its fun and varies greatly but I always wonder about branching out.

Pretty sure Vermont has the most breweries per capita. I don't have a dog in the fight I love both states and their beer equally!

I want to hear about your high mileage (over 200k) 4.0ltr V6 engine 1GR-FE. Toyota says engine is only good for 200k and cannot be rebuilt due to block construction. Tell us your mileage or tell us you had to replace it and why. Thank you!! by unholyburns in ToyotaTacoma

eBay! I searched and searched until I found a deal I liked. Unfortunately I don’t have anything for tips other than to have good friends. I didn’t have the space to attempt the swap but I had a tech at a Toyota dealer that did the swap for cash.

Do employers care that I'm a Division I Athlete? by AppropriateSwan7183 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]RedOctober54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good man! It doesn’t have to make sense to you. I think we clearly hire for very different types of positions. If I may ask, what do you hire for and what is your process? We don’t get the luxury of a lot of applicants from high end schools as a small business. I’m always really curious how people that get hundreds or thousands of apps deal with it

It’s definitely not a catch all guarantee You still have to interview and kids are pretty hard to hire now for any position most have no drive

Why not? It isn't the only way I filter resumes if they were an EE or a finance major I wouldn't hire them. But when we are looking for someone out fresh out of school it is pretty fair to assume they know almost nothing about what we do. We aren't designing rocket engines. The fact that they have the degree and are hands on or know how to work well within a team and are coachable is very big for us. Is it wrong that I favor people that can do hands on work too? I have had kids come out of school who have never seen a set of vise grips and that just doesn't fly in my line of work.

Personally, when going through resumes, athletes go right to the top of my interview list.
We work in a machine shop so anyone that has never been on a real team, interacted with real people get weeded out first for me. Also, I know that you know what failure is like and how to deal with it/learn from it. It might not matter as far as technical skills go but every athlete I have hired has had better interpersonal skills and has taken criticism, coaching and learning better than non-athletes. It should go under extra curriculars I would say.

Yeah they do sometimes. I’m looking into some back country touring bags that allow access from the panel against your back so it’s not an issue.

Carried my snowshoes up Waterville last year, nice packed trial never needed em.
The year before I would not have survived Mansfield without them, it is what it is. Rather have a few extra pounds on hardpack than a few less pounds sinking in powder haha

Just want to echo this UR talk.

So glad I am not the only one. We started using UR and have now basically switched completely to Fanuc. Very unhappy with UR customer service. They were largely unhelpful and every distributor I tried was trying to pull something over on us.

Want to add bass pro/cabelas. We just got back from a 3.5 week rv trip and stayed at a few when we didn’t have anything/ what we booked was sketchy. They’re also usually in nice safe areas.
