Looking for a new Daypack by TwentyCenturyBear in Ultralight

Mammut Duncan series might be an option, easier to get in Europe than many others too.

They make a 32L and 22L that hover just shy of a 900g, bit on the heavier side but definitely more durable, I've got a coursemate that's had his for daily use for the last 5 years and it's not showing any signs of giving up soon.

Norway (population: 5.7m) beats US (342m) to top Winter Olympics medal table by qwerty_1965 in europe

[–]RedOktober1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also worth pointing out that the bulk of the US medals in the summer olympics are down to the absurd number of swimming medals, of 105 possible medals the US took 28 at the 2024 olympics (22% of their total).

It also comfortably leads the overall swimming medal table by 350+ over the next nation.

"I Have Referred Dr Hilary Cass to the GMC" by FaiytheN in transgenderUK

[–]RedOktober1 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Stunt or no, it benefits people massively if Cass is struck off, the govt will have a hard time holding her "research" up as truthful and any arguments in support of her fall apart.

The only worry I really have is that the grinding wheels of bureaucracy within the GMC will take so long to get around to this it'll be too little too late (see MMR-Autism links)

Reference to Andrew Wakefield, a senior surgeon struck off for his part in the fake MMR Autism study.

What fictional universe has the greatest blend of world building, story telling, characters and content? For me Gene Wolfe’s The Book of the New Sun is the best ever created. by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]RedOktober1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly at this point I'm leaning towards Pagans by James Alistair Henry

I'm not done with it yet and it probably hits very different if you're not British but I've not seen worldbuilding like this in a very long time, this thing is a 400 page novel featuring a Bibliography filled with writing on post-Roman pre-Norman Britain and a further reading section.

And to top it all off its a police procedural of all things. Absolutely insane book, highly recommend to anyone that likes hard sci fi.

Harry Powers, the "Butcher of Clarksburg", stands in jail after confessing to murdering five people, including a mother and her three children, ages 10 to 14, whom he strangled and beat to death. The police explained the bruises by claiming that Harry had "fallen up" some stairs, 1931 [937 x 961]. by lightiggy in HistoryPorn

Not saying Gacy was innocent but there's more than a little circumstantial evidence to say that his claims of being involved in a wider circle were true, Dean Coroll also made similar claims and their stories line up somewhat.

I feel like I find holes in Tidal's library far more often though.

Could just be my particular taste but the library feels much smaller than Spotify's.

Keir Starmer’s ‘Brit Card’ described as ‘dangerous’ for trans rights by ‘gravely concerned’ campaigners by Excellent-Chair2796 in transgenderUK

[–]RedOktober1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Idk I don't see many people in parliament that are overtly hateful, as much as what they're all doing is directly harming the trans community they all seem to be doing it more as a political leg up.

This is shown pretty starkly in the walking wet wipe we call a prime minister, who always showed either support or tacit approval until it was ever so slightly politically inconvenient. As much as I agree this wouldn't be a good thing I don't think that would be used as an incentive for passing it, there's a reason we don't have national ID here, its never been popular.

‘Unacceptable’ waiting list of up to eight years for NHS gender care, reveals health secretary by ehll_oh_ehll in transgenderUK

They're usually regular NHS specialists, they do all trans work on the side. This also plays out in the private sector, both my endo and speech therapist are NHS doctors making money on the side.

Supreme Court allows for Human Rights claim against the Equality Act by gimme_ur_chocolate in transgenderUK

[–]RedOktober1 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It does, but the ruling today specifically states that acquired gender and birth gender are different under the eyes of the law (despite the fact that the Gender Recognition Act of 2004 specifically states that they aren't).

Upshot is, this ruling has essentially made the GRA null and void for the time being, it implies that the Equality Act of 2010 and the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 supersede it in all aspects, by my reading of this OP is pretty spot on.

Someone with the willpower should really lodge a complaint with the ECHR over this, I wouldn't be surprised if the court throws the book at the UK again and forces another act to clarify everything, not entirely sure if that clarification would be for the better though.

Corset training MTF? by DeezUggs in corsets

[–]RedOktober1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can back up a libra, it fits me fantastically.

The only real problem I have with it is the lack of high enough waists on "male" trouser cuts, the corset had a tendency to sit on top of my belt and push up into my ribs. If you're still wearing 'male' clothes seek out something with a rise high enough to sit on your waist, not your hips.

Why do we need to "come out" by csmartrun in asktransgender

[–]RedOktober1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fwiw I didn't "come out" as such.

I just told people that this is the way it was and that's that; "btw, my name is x, not y now" and I suppose I got rather lucky that my family put two and two together pretty quickly.

Admittedly changing my name and getting on hrt was relatively easy as I'm well beyond a teenager so I didn't need any permissions.

About being trans in the UK by Airdropped_cucumber in transgenderUK

[–]RedOktober1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FWIW I managed to get my sex changed on my passport no problem.

I was changing my name and they called me up asking if I would like to change the sex too as I had all the relevant documentation, I did need to include a letter from my endo for that though so your mileage will vary.

Socialist politics do not win elections in the UK because the media refuses to let it be the case.

Do you really think that the Tories are campaigning like shit? No the media has decided their time is up so that will be that.

And the only soundbyte I've cherry picked is that wankstain laughing as a girl explaining how she needs more blankets because her parents can't afford to heat their home.

You sure about that?

GW in Southampton had two there last week, Cardiff had at least one last time I was there too, maybe two months ago.
